Built only for 1992, Porsche produced a variant of the 964 that
would become one of the most popular and respected 964s to ever
come from the factory: the 964RS. Lightened up from the factory by
removing various components and materials from the car, these
stripped lightweight Porsches were built for only one year in 1992.
With just under 2,000 built, these cars instantly were a rare
commodity. Approximately 76 cars known as "Touring" models, like
this car, gained the modern luxuries that were removed from the
rest, and given the chance to have special options added at the new
owner's request. Most of the 964RSs were built as "Basic" models.
These cars lacked most of the comfort features such as air
conditioning, power windows, power seats and sound proofing
removed, and unavailable to add any type of special options or
requests.
Completed on March 6th, 1992, this Porsche 964RS Touring was
optioned with Equipment for Japan delivery, Air conditioning and
Power Steering. Imported into Japan by the Mizwa Motors Group, this
Porsche was spec'd in Guards Red with a black leather interior with
tri-tone seat inserts. The would remain in Japan for most of its
life, only just recently been imported into the United States in
2012. Jim Woods, a prominent Porsche collector, would keep the
immaculate 964RS for almost 6 years before selling the car to a
southern California collector in 2018.
Upon arrival at Canepa, the 964RS was meticulously inspected both
cosmetically and mechanically, presenting itself in like-new
condition. Every panel has its original paint with no blemishes and
the interior looks as though no one has spent any time inside. The
engine bay is immaculate as it is original, and the underside of
the car displays all of its factory hardware and finishes in a way
that concourse judges admire: original, clean and well maintained.
Now offered for sale, this excellent example of a 964RS Touring is
a piece of 964 history that is both special and useable for
everyday driving, and giving the driver the ultimate driving
experience.
