Since the late 1960s, the XJ served as Jaguar's flagship luxury saloon. This remained true for the sixth generation XJ, known internally as the X350, produced between 2003 and 2007. This was a completely new car from the ground up, base on a rigid and lightweight all-aluminum chassis and body, with V6 and V8 engines, depending on the market. American buyers only got the 'AJ' series V8, a silky and powerful 32-valve unit with an exceptional reputation.
