Vehicle Description
1994 Ford Thunderbird LX
The tenth generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a personal luxury
car that was produced by Ford for the 1989 to 1997 model years. It
was introduced on December 26, 1988 as a 1989 model alongside its
sister car, the Mercury Cougar. Developed on Ford's new MN12,
(Mid-Size North American Project 12), platform from the second
quarter of 1984, (production approved in mid-1985), the new
Thunderbird featured a more aerodynamic body that was slightly
shorter in overall length relative to the 1988 Thunderbird but had
a nine-inch-longer wheelbase.
For consignment, a 1994 version of the Thunderbird. By this 12th
generation, it has gone from the classic sports car to a ubiquitous
family sedan, and looked a lot like the Mercury Cougar. A rounded
aero design this consignment is bathed in Pumice Metallic.
Exterior
Typical of mid 90's styling the front is sleek and thin with
integrated headlights on either side of a body matching neoprene
bumper and grille which is bathed in Pumice Metallic. Black window
surrounds and some 3 dimensional trimmings below the belt line add
some texture to this two door sedan. On the back a gently sloping
rear glass meets up with the trunk panel and curves downward to
wide tail lighting and another neoprene bumper. 15-inch wheels are
wrapped with 215/70R15 tires from the 2nd week of 2017 are on all 4
corners.
Interior
Beige broadcloth covers the front buckets and rear bench. These
chairs remain in good condition and float in a sea of tan
carpeting. A curvy molded dash is upfront and has all the controls
within the driver's reach. A center console houses the shifter and
a large glove box.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 3.8 liter V6. It sports EFI and has a 4R70W 4
speed automatic on back with a Ford 8.8 inch 3.27 conventional
rear.
Undercarriage
Some patina and surface rust is seen on the usual cast metal
suspects, but mostly clean. The unibody is solid, and the floor
pans present with no rust. This car has power disc brakes on all
4's, and independent McPherson strut front suspension, and
independent coil spring rear suspension. The exhaust piping has
some slight surface rust.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, smooth acceleration although not nearly neck
braking, good handling and good on the panic stop for the brakes.
It runs and drives nicely
Although not a highlight year for the T bird with execs planning
it, it sold many and was popular with the public. Now available for
the plucking from our Hallowed Halls, it can be seen amongst the
originals and many generations of this classic FORD design.
