Vehicle Description
1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28
Why This Car Is Special
In 1985 Chevrolet introduced the Camaro IROC-Z, an acronym for
International Race of Champions Z28. The IROC was a Z28 upgrade
package and offered buyers a specially tuned suspension, staggered
front and rear wheels, a unique sway bar and a host of other
features, many of which were similar to or borrowed directly from
Corvette.
We have one of those 1987 Camaro IROC-Z's here at Skyway Classics
that has a great color combination of red with a tan interior.

Mechanics
Our IROC has a L98 5.7L Tuned Port Injected V-8 engine with 4-speed
overdrive automatic transmission, factory stock black intake system
with Ram Air, with the factory finned aluminum valve covers and
matching tuned port injection cover, air conditioning, power
steering, and power brakes.
The TPI 350 motor was distinguishable from the TPI 305 by checking
the VIN (8th character, F-305, 8-350). The 350 L98 gave a boost to
225 hp @ 4400 and 330ftlb @ 2800 and received hydraulic roller
lifters and new valve cover/head design. Valve covers featured new
sealing and center bolts in the valve covers.
Spent gasses exit through the factory exhaust headers into the dual
exhaust system and out the rear tips. The IROC rides on the correct
factory 5-spoke mag wheels on black sidewall performance tires.
Interior
The tan cloth bucket seat interior our IROC has is nice with
matching tan carpets and floor mats, dash, console, and side
panels. It is loaded with factory options like automatic
transmission with overdrive, glass top, Power windows and locks,
Cruise control, Tilt column, and stereo radio system.
To protect the interior from the harmful sun rays, all the windows
have dark window tint on them too.
Exterior
The IROC has all the classic lines covered in red paint with the
largest visual change this year was the third brake light was now
mounted inside the rear spoiler instead of on top of the rear
hatch. The Camaro has all the factory correct emblems, graphics,
and hood scoops to give it that IROC look.
Conclusion
This 1987 Chevrolet IROC Z Camaro we have here at Skyway Classics
has the right look and stance and can back it up with the L98 TPI
engine. It is a real nice car to cruise in or go to the shows.
