Why This Car Is Special

The Avanti and Avanti II is an American performance sports coupe based on the Studebaker Avanti and marketed through a succession of five different ownership arrangements between 1965 and 2006.

The Avanti II evolved to have the small-block Chevrolet engine and GM's Turbo 350 automatic transmission built on the Studebaker-designed chassis and building one of the 1980s Avanti IIs required 10 to 12 weeks, depending on special color or upholstery orders.

Mechanical

The Avanti II has a new Chevrolet Crate 350 cubic inch engine that was driven very few miles and appears as new. It looks great with the black painted block, heads, and intake, and has chrome valve covers, factory Chevrolet cast iron exhaust manifolds, 4-barrel carb, newer HEI type electronics and distributor, chrome open air cleaner with a chrome lid, air condition, power steering and brakes, a new larger aluminum radiator, new fuel pump, new battery, new PS pump, new plugs and wires, power steering power cylinder and control valve for overhaul with new power steering high pressure hoses, and all new engine hoses and belts.

Other work that has been done to the Avanti II recently includes the fuel tank was pulled and new filler hose installed along with new fuel and vent lines coming from the tank, Air Conditioning system overhauled with original style rebuilt compressor, new thermostat, new condenser, drier and all other parts needed to convert over from old freon to new R134A..

The car starts easily idles and drives smoothly with lots of power. This is a car you can drive home, no need to ship. The brakes are excellent, air conditioning is ice cold, and it rides on 5-spoke American polished mag wheels and newer Goodyear thin white sidewall tires.

It is a comfortable highway cruiser and has no difficulty maintaining freeway speeds and the transmission has a factory high end cruise gear for good mileage and low rpms at 60 and 70 mph. Acceleration is brisk with the new engine and the 4-bbl Rochester has a throaty roar when the pedal is floored.

Interior

Looking inside reveals the original Recaro custom leather bucket seats up front and the rear bench seat which all are wrapped in soft and subtle navy blue leather. New carpet throughout really shows off the highly detailed interior with its gorgeous wood trim.

It has Power windows, antenna, door locks, cruise control, center console, and the original factory power sunroof/moonroof tells you that this baby is fully optioned out, the wood steering wheel is a factory option and is on the original bill of sale.

Exterior

Walking around this gorgeous Avanti II's fiberglass body dressed in eye-popping and head-turning White you will see that the paint finish on this car is amazing.

You also can't help but notice all of the chrome, the good body panel fitment and the tightness of the doors, hood and trunk, as this car is very nice with no rust and a nice smooth straight body.

The glass, trim, badges, and overall look is also great and this is one car you won't see at every car show, it gets attention everywhere you drive it.
