the top of Buicks model lines since 1959, the Electra was totally
restyled for 1971, along with the B-Body full-size cars offered by
GMs various automotive divisions. Larger and offering even more
passenger space than before, the new Electra range was led by the
Electra 225. While formerly denoting the model lines generous
225-inch overall length, the 1971 iteration actually measured 226.9
inches. Production would continue with select updates through 1976,
prior to the famous downsizing of full-size cars from General
Motors. Given their outstanding ride quality, powerful
large-displacement V-8 engines, and uniquely driver-focused
approach to luxury, these high-end 1971-76 Buick models continue to
be appreciated by marque collectors and enthusiasts today.Specially
ordered when new from Baker-Williams Buick in Kentucky, this
fabulous and impeccably preserved original survivor retains its
gorgeous factory-applied Sandalwood Tan paint finish over Saddle
leather upholstery. Just 50,065 miles are indicated at the time of
writing. Features and options are many, including air conditioning,
an AM/FM radio, standard power front disc/rear drum brakes, power
steering with tilt column, a power split front bench seat, and
power windows. The rare 2-door hardtop coupe body style is further
enhanced by a smart vinyl roof covering. Ample power is delivered
by Buicks proprietary 455 CI V-8 engine, factory-rated at 250
horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 360 foot-pounds of torque at just 2,600
engine revolutions. A column-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission
delivers the power to a highway-friendly 2.73:1 rear axle.
Outstanding documentation includes the build sheet, dealer
brochures, owners manual, and service records. Accompanying items
include the full-size spare wheel/tire, roadside jack and lug
wrench, and a car cover. This Electra 225 Custom 2-door hardtop is
one of 37,974 examples produced for 1972; however, high-quality,
original examples are exceptionally scarce today. Of those
survivors, precious few, if any, are as original and beautifully
preserved and presented as this true, collector-grade example.
