COMPLETE RESTORATION!
VERY RARE!
BEAUTIFUL DRIVER!
This beautiful 1953 Jowett Jupiter Mark I A is an ultra-rare find
with a superb frame-off restoration completed by the previous
owner. This car was part of a private collection owned for over 35
years. It was lovingly cared for and had a full restoration.
This gorgeous Jupiter Mark I A is one of the few remaining cars of
the ultra-rare models. There were a grand total of 897 models made
from 1950 to 1954 and only 94 were Mark I A's, and our Jupiter Mark
I A is one of the only 54 left-hand drive models ever produced!
As a Mark I A, our 1953 Jupiter boasts an engine with more
horsepower than the previous years and a larger trunk that can be
accessed from the car's interior.
This car just received a full major service, including replacing
all fluids, servicing the brakes, cleaning the fuel lines, and
replacing any belts and hoses, and drives very well.
The cabin features a single bench seat that will accommodate two,
which is upholstered in leather, while the remaining cabin is
upholstered in rexine (a faux leather material coated in fabric).
It comes with a folding soft top that is stored behind the
seat.
Remarks from the Restorer:
E2SAL795R was restored in 2014-15.
It needed minimal rust repair and had never been in an accident.
Minor hammer work removed the dings and dents from long term
storage.
The paint is 2-stage PPG in a modern Chrysler white.
The motor was rebuilt with an oval web crank and AE pistons. Heads
were rebuilt with custom valves and springs. The clutch cover was
rebuilt, and a new friction plate was installed.
The water pump was rebuilt, and the radiator was cleaned and
pressure checked.
The gearbox was in decent condition and resealed. The Salisbury
rear axles on these cars are under-stressed and never fail. Seals
were replaced.
All hydraulics were replaced or rebuilt with new shoes arced to
match the drums.
The leather seat is Jaguar (Palomino IIRC), purchased with the
coordinating vinyl for the rest of the interior from BASF in the
UK. A local upholstery shop did the interior to a high standard,
and the carpet is Wilton wool. Brown was chosen as the owner
thought tan would get dirty looking quickly.
The steering wheel was hand painted by an artist friend of the
owner. The Bluemel steering wheel was recast from a custom mold and
carries a 10-year guarantee for cracks or any failures.
There are many other details; this was a full restoration, not just
new paint and interior. The pictures show how much work this car
received.
These are very nice drivers and much more comfortable than other
sports car of the period. Acceleration was nothing to shout about
even in the day, but the motors have excellent torque and the
chassis/suspension was light years ahead of the competition.
Jupiters won frequently in international competitions mainly due to
their handling.
This car was trailered to shows and won several trophies. He even
built a garage just to house it. I believe the claimed mileage to
be accurate post-restoration.
The Jupiter has some racing history as it achieved competition
success with a record-breaking class win at the 1950 Le Mans
24-Hour race, a class one-two in the 1951 Monte Carlo International
Rally, an outright win in the 1951 Lisbon International Rally, and
a class one-two in a grueling four-hour sports car race on the
public road at Dundrod Circuit in Northern Ireland in September
1951.
This Jupiter Mark I A is an excellent choice for a collector
wanting something rare and exceptional.
The five-digit odometer shows approximately 264 miles; only a
handful of these miles were driven while in the private collection
and 2 while at Sports Car Company.
Vehicle features include a beige soft top, driver's side-view
mirror, split windshield, and beautiful chrome bumpers and
trim.
Here, find one of the cleanest examples of a very rare and fully
restored Jowett Jupiter Mark I A to be seen today.
