GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1956 Mercury Montclair
for your consideration. Powered by a 312ci V8 motor that produced
260 horsepower, power is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed
Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission. An Edelbrock carburetor has
been installed as have Edelbrock valve covers.
For the 1956 model year, the Montclair received some exterior
revisions. Now two types of two-tone paint combinations could be
chosen from with a full length multi-tier chrome spear running the
length of the vehicle. The "Flo-tone" paint combination featured
one color on the lower body and roof while the upper body was
finished in another color. This example has the "Flo-tone" paint
scheme in the color combination of salmon/white. It rides on thick
white wall tires and has plenty of exterior chrome throughout.
Inside the vehicle is a split folding front bench seat adorned in a
two tone cloth/leather combination. To bring this car back to its
former glory it will need some TLC but this is a great restoration
candidate.
The Montclair was a full size car that was produced from just 1955
to 1957 and was one of Mercury's premium models. Named after the
upper class community of Montclair, New Jersey, these cars featured
the best trim, features, and appointments that Mercury could drum
up. It offered some of the most desirable features of any car
around and was comparable to lower end Cadillacs and Lincolns.
