The first generation of Thunderbird was introduced as a smaller 2
seater sporty convertible similar to the Chevrolet Corvette.
However just a couple years later the 2nd generation introduced a
rear seat and refocused itself on driving comforts and convenience
over high speed performance. This was the creation of the "personal
luxury car" and would become Ford's focus for the Thunderbird for
years to come. This would remain the case until the final
generation when the retro styled modern vehicle trend was started
and they returned to their 2 seater designs. This nice 1960 Ford
Thunderbird belonged to the 2nd generation which was known as the
square birds. These years saw huge market success selling 4 times
as much as the previous generation and was the first individual
model line to receive Motor Trends Car of the Year. This very cool
convertible is in good shape and has had a body on restoration. It
was originally Black but has since been repainted in a two tone
Teal and pearl White. This is paired with a Black power convertible
top that has all updated controls and electronics. This model had
the double front headlights and triple taillights which are all
working properly. It has been entirely rechromed and the original
bumpers have an excellent shine. It has the continental kit in rear
with Thunderbird logo and emblems. It also comes with the hard
cover parade boot which covers the rear seats when the top is down.
Other neat add-ons include the rear fender skirts which are painted
to match. The car rides on wire wheels wrapped with wide white wall
radials.
Under the hood the motor has been swapped out for a fuel injected
4.6L police interceptor motor out of a 2004 Crown Victoria. A
majority of the motor is painted Ford Blue and it is topped off
with a Thunderbird Special Interceptor air cleaner. The motor runs
strong with no issues. It is paired with an automatic transmission
that also came out of the Crown Vic. It has power brakes with discs
up front as well as power steering. It has all new suspension
components and all new exhaust. Other nice features include the
aftermarket aluminum radiator with electric fans.
The interior has been entirely redone in a Black ultra leather. It
has dual bucket seats up front with a bench in the rear. It is
finished out with a diamond tuck style and is in great condition.
It has its original center console that stretches between the seats
and mates up into the dash where you will find the Magic Aire
AC/Heat controls. It has a polished tilt steering column with
column shifter and is topped off with a woodgrain steering wheel.
The dash has a mostly stock look with its original gauges, knobs
and switches.
This unique square bird has a great look and is ready to go.
