Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta has done it again with this
gorgeous 1988 BMW E30 M3. Not only is this car a beautiful sports
car, it is also as rare as hen's teeth. When BMW set out to
dominate the World Touring Car Championship with its 3-series car
the company had to build 5,000 with a 200-bhp, 2.3-liter engine to
homologate it for racing. The result was this all time classic.
There was only approximately 5,000 E30's made in 1988, with 500 of
those being the upgraded Sport Evolution E30. This car is a Sport
Evolution Tribute, and was not born a Sport Evolution. The Sport
Evolution came with a few tasteful upgrades, which included a
slight increase in horsepower from the original E30 with 190 bhp to
a solid 220 bhp. Other upgrades included suspension mods as well as
a front splitter and rear spoiler. These give the car that
gorgeous, boxy, sports car look that has been an enthusiast's dream
for years.
This E30 is painted in a super slick bright red paint job, and is
complimented by 3-piece BBS wheels. This look has been around for
years, and it truly looks amazing in contrast with the shape of the
car and adds tons of style points. As well as more performance,
this M3 looks the part with distinctive fender flares, a carbon
fiber front splitter, and decklid spoiler. Another noticeable
feature on this beautiful body is the sloping rear window. BMW
decided to set the rear window at a lower angle which reduced the
size of the trunk lid. This led to new pillars, which help stiffen
the body. BMW calls this style a "two-door four-seater body with
unitary monocoque construction".
Under the hood is where the real action and excitement lies. A
cast-iron block four-cylinder first seen in the 1960's was bored
out to give 2.3 liters and fitted with a forged-steel crankshaft
and cast-alloy oil pan. The top end has an all-new allow cylinder
head, designed with lessons learned from BMW race engines. It has
four valves per cylinder with 1.46-inch intake that flows to an
upgraded exhaust. It was designed by BMW to be able to rev beyond
7,000 rpms, which is aided by its tuned manifolds and electronic
injection. Boasting a solid 220-bhp, this car has plenty of speed
to power its small and lightweight body. A few upgrades that have
taken this car to a different level include a Mishimoto aluminum
radiator and electric fan, as well as a Bavarian Autosport strut
tower brace. These additions help cool the engine and keep the
frame from flexing when cutting it close on those tight turns.
This M3 Evolution is far more exclusive and has more of everything
in comparison to the M3. More power, better performance, and better
handling thanks for larger wheels, tires, and stiffer springs. A
high demand and low supply means that they still command very high
prices, and will only continue to rise. Don't miss your chance to
own this rare E30 M3 and give us a call today!
