1951 Chevrolet Custom
The 1951 Chevy Custom ZZ4 350cui known as "High School Sweetheart"
by Street Rodder Magazine. A first-class Frame-Off build. A super
clean build just takes one look under the hood & fire wall clean,
clean, clean! No wires anywhere! The stunning show quality PPG
Pastel Green by Baha Automotive takes you back to 1951. The glow of
the Pastel Green can be seen throughout from the body, frame, and
floor pans.
Perfect build for cruising the boulevards with a ZZ4 GM crate 350
ci. with MSD/Taylor ignition, TH350 automatic, Flaming River
shifter, and a 10-bolt rear end with 3.73 gear. The '51 has a very
nice growl sound from Hooker headers and dual FlowMaster 2 1/2"
exhaust. To keep the ride smooth a HEIDT's suspension and 11" front
disc brakes with a Corvette master cylinder keep you safe. The Rack
& Pinion power steering is a great addition. When the summer gets a
little warm yes, air conditioning by Vintage Air! The details on
this frame-off build shows the dedication of years of work.
To achieve the smooth bodywork by Jerry Charslon, start with
replacing the Chevrolet split windshield with an Oldsmobile one
piece. The front headlights have been set back in the fenders
making them more stream line. The fire wall has also been smoothed
along with the inner fenders.
The interior by Jim Sanders is done in dark Naugahyde is
comfortable and functionable due to being a '54 Chevy front and
stock rear bench seats. The matching door panels now hide power
windows. The original cranks operate the windows with a simple push
down or lift up on the crank...nice! The trunk has a hide-a-away
storage area and the relocated battery is also hidden in the trunk.
The '51 trunk has plenty of room for those road trips. All done in
the matching houndstooth. The original looking gauges are built by
United Speedometer in the classic white face with black numbers.
The speaker grille hides an updated Sony & Bosch stereo / CD player
and yes, this beauty has a power antenna that is smooth with the
fender. The '64 steering wheel looks perfect in the '51 matching to
the IDIDIT tilt steering column is very tasteful.
