Vehicle Description
1934 Ford 40 Sedan
The great thing about the evolution of hot rodding is: over the
past 30 years a vast array of excellent products has continually
streamed onto the market. And presently, anyone with a checkbook
and an affinity for going way too fast and looking way too good can
build anything from state-of-the-art avant-garde to old school
cool.
This sweet Ford 40 sedan, wrapping an slightly updated chassis and
reliable V8 has show stopping aesthetics, is a ground-up build that
combines the core strengths of original hot rodding with an
uncompromising vision and top-notch componentry. And, if you're
looking to score a fully sorted custom that mixes classic good
looks with proven road manners, it's a strong candidate for your
next street rod!
Exterior
A 34 2-door sedan all steel body covers the factory Ford frame. It
is bathed in beautiful maroon and has a nifty shield style front
vertical ribbed grille. This is flanked by 2 single headlights
which sit proudly attached to the frame and rest in shiny chrome
bezels. Now fender-less, bumper-less, and a roofline that is
slightly chopped with lightly smoked glass, the steel is all in
excellent condition. Beautifully curvaceous and factory correct
lines for this body and sporty 15" front and 16-inch rear steel
wheels withbright and shiny trim rings and dog dish caps are
wrapped by all season radials. Take a bow and grab the gold medal
for this maroon painted rodder.
Interior
Within the steel door frame, the black vinyl diamond pleated door
panels get their design from the snappy red stitching along with
great chrome for the door pulls, cranks and actuators. Moving
inside 2 broadcloth buckets in charcoal gray are between the doors
with checked ivory cloth inserts. An undulating black steel painted
dash is fronted by black steering column topped by a white rimmed
banjo style rally steering wheel. A cluster of black bezel, black
faced circular gauges graces the area in front of the driver all
within a shiny aluminum panel dressed with a big V8. The controls
for the AC and head are in dash central to the driver's right.
Clean black carpeting covers the floors and the area behind buckets
which hold the bucket matching bench. Our consignor notes that the
rear bench is not bolted to the flooring. Wood lath and chicken
wire make up the roofing and we note some silver sound deadening
material has been added.
Drivetrain
Shoehorned in the engine bay under the louvered side center hinged
hood is now a 350ci V8 that has been fitted with a 4bbl carburetor.
A TH400 3-speed automatic is on back which throws power rearward to
a Ford 9-inch pumpkin with 3.00 gearing. Some chrome dress up is
noted on this clean mill and I really dig the connecting rod &
skulls mounted atop the firewall.
Undercarriage
The black factory frame is very structurally sound as is the
flooring and crossmembers. 4 wheel "juice" drum brakes adorn the
corners and for the suspension up front we see a transverse leaf
spring with some chrome for the drop axle. Keeping the rear tires
planted is a ladder bar system with a transverse leaf spring. Dual
exhaust and glasspack style mufflers are on for efficient spent
fossil removal with the tail pipesending just under the rear of the
chassis
Drive-Ability
This rodder fired right up and off to the test track where skating
on the trimmed out steel wheels and all season radials is not an
everyday occurrence in a hot rod. It has nice smooth acceleration,
good handling and a smooth ride. All functions were working just
great save for the speedometer needing calibrated and it's a head
turner. We had the whole town beeping at us!
Factory Henry steel and a 350ci V8, modern conveniences and chopped
top, this maroon beauty is meant to be driven, unlike the the SEMA
show stopping rods being built. Hurry into our Hallowed Halls and
be the first to pick this juicy ripe low hanging fruit.
