No one would argue the fact that the Plymouth 'Super Bird' is a
very rare MOPAR. However, this 1971 Plymouth GTX is also a very
rare bird. Muscle cars were at their peak in the late 60's/early
70's and this Plymouth GTX was one of Chrysler's strongest. Based
on the redesigned 'B body' platform and fitted with a powerful
big-block drivetrain, this Plymouth was a perfect example of MOPAR
muscle. This GTX is said to be a '1 of 1'- the only GTX finished in
'In-Violet Purple' and delivered as an 'Export Only' vehicle.
Documentation affirming originality is furnished with the car
including an authenticity report from Galen Govier LLC, an
accomplished MOPAR registry service.
This GTX was the beneficiary of a full rotisserie restoration by
High-Octane Restorations of Savanna, GA. The exterior was carefully
prepped and resprayed in CF-7 'In-Violet Purple' (more commonly
known as 'Plum Crazy' from the Dodge line-up). Accents include a
black vinyl top, blacked out 'Air-Grabber' hood and black side
stripes. Factory MOPAR rally-style wheels mount Goodyear Polyglas
F70x14 bias ply tires - there's a memory. A fully restored bucket
seat black vinyl interior is in excellent condition. There is a
console w/Slap-Shifter, new carpeting, new seat belts and
headliner. Windows are tinted and the factory AM radio has been
reconditioned along with new front/rear OEM speakers and an
original cassette tape player w/dictation microphone. A
period-correct aftermarket Audiovox FM-Convertor has also been
installed.
The entire numbers-matching drivetrain (engine/trans/diff) was
rebuilt in 2021 - everything restored to factory specs. Horsepower
is provided by the 440ci 'Wedge" that is equipped with a single
Carter AFB 4-bbl carburetor (original rebuilt carb) and optional
'Air-Grabber' intake package. Every detail has been addressed
including inspections marks and paint dabs and most components are
date-coded correct. Factory gross output of the 440 was rated at
370bhp w/480 lb/ft of torque. It is backed by a Chrysler 727
TorqueFlite HD automatic transmission and a MOPAR 8-3/4" Suretrac
differential w/3.23:1 gears. The chassis is fitted with manual
steering and manual 4-wheel drum brakes w/dual master. Our GTX
strikes a nice stance with torsion bar front suspension with HD
front sway bar. The Accurate Exhaust Products system sounds great
and looks perfect with red insert exhaust tips. This is a rare
MOPAR. Study the photos - this Plymouth GTX is impressive. ALL
