Vehicle Description
This 1968 Pontiac Firebird is a numbers-matching V8 cruiser. It has
a truly classic appeal where everything you see - from the
coordinated color theme to working AM radio - drives home the
attitude of a proper vintage driver.
The color theme works well for this car. The trim tag tells us it's
wearing its correct Mayfair Maze. It's not a muscle car color like
red or black, so it sets the tone right for a cool and classic
cruiser. That's because this one is a true vintage coupe that has
terrific paperwork and it was even issued an actual miles title in
2022. As you look over the whole car, it tells you how much it
likes to stay in touch with its roots. The paperwork shows it was
restored around 1995, but they utilized a single-stage application
to give it a look closer to the classic lacquer finish. It
continues to have a nice soft glow in the sunshine that reminds you
that Pontiacs were not only performance-bred but premium, too. This
up-scale feeling is continued on the originally optioned black
vinyl roof. But more than just a great color combo, you love that
these first-gen Firebirds were an instant classic thanks to the
bold styling. It starts up front with the unique chrome bumper that
gives the whole front end of Pontiac's wide-track look. Good
bodywork helps make sure items like the crease that runs from nose
to tail are crisply defined, and you recognize the faux vents in
the quarter panels are a cool contrast that helps break up the
otherwise smooth sheet metal. This one is great, right down to the
details, like the redline tires. And we like how this still keeps
the classic hubcaps but paints them black to coordinate with the
roof.
Another great premium touch is when the vinyl roof is also a
preview of the interior color. The black interior appears neatly
done from the noted restoration and carries an exceptional factory
correctness level. You paid a bit more for a Pontiac back in the
day, so it's nice to still see it now with welcomed extras like the
wood appearance on the dash and the desirable center console with
floor shift. And you'll appreciate the little things like the
working AM radio and the dome light that greets you when the door
opens. The front bucket seats, crisp gauges, and classic grippy
steering wheel have the right mix of nostalgia and cruiser fun.
Under the hood is a beautifully presented way to showcase a
factory-like style. It starts with the numbers-matching 350
cubic-inch V8. The block and valve covers glow from within the dark
engine bay thanks to a clean application of the correct Pontiac
turquoise. And we know you love this down to the details, like the
factory air topper with the "Keep your GM car all GM" decal (other
car guys love that kind of thing, too.) The motor hasn't been just
well cared for on the outside. The way this one fires up with
confidence and runs smoothly lets you know this original V8 has
received the proper maintenance over its lifetime, too. The
numbers-matching two-speed automatic transmission is a smooth
shifter with excellent easy-driving features like power steering
and brakes.
The sale comes with terrific paperwork like the factory buildsheet,
original bill of sale, owner's manual, build receipts, and
restoration photos. This is a very cool V8 classic Firebird with a
classy and original-style presentation. So if you want to be both
vintage and distinct, you need this Pontiac in your life. Call
