Vehicle Description
Here's a true classic with the right investments to keep you
enjoying it daily. This 1976 Mercedes-Benz 280C has that great
iconic Mercedes appearance, and it's done with eye-catching paint,
a loaded A/C interior, a cool pillarless hardtop, and a terrific
supple yet agile ride. It makes for a distinctive classic
maintained to be an awesome cruiser.
The Mercedes model W114 coupe is one of the coolest cars around. It
blends the regal appearance of the 1960s and 70s classics with
desirable sporty features, like the pillarless hardtop design. That
tells you a lot about Benz's legendary build quality at the time
because even Chevelles lost their pillarless option by '74. After
all, Chevy was worried the roof was not strong enough for safety
standards! And speaking of the 1970s, earth tones were all the
rage. But while the brown is factory-correct, we're told this one
was given a modern respray around 2016. And because this is a
well-respected classic, the finish continues to have an impressive
clearcoat shine. The nice metallic element heightens this unleashed
every time the sunshine finds the sturdy German sheet metal. There
has been real attention to detail here with the classic
color-matched wheel covers, exceptionally clean glass, and
full-length trim that looks almost like an unbroken line. Plus,
those chrome bumpers were given a nice investment in 2020 to give
off a big shine... and have you noticed something unique about
them? This one has European-style body-hugging bumpers that make
this coupe look sleeker and subtly unique.
The bamboo tan interior is a nice complementing color to the
exterior brown. It is quite an inviting atmosphere, with the
upholstery, carpeting, door panels, headliner, dash, and other
fundamentals looking good. Even the details are nice with wood
trim, working horn, working dome light, and a fold-down armrest for
both rows of seating. But our favorite classic piece is the Becker
Europa II stereo that's still cranking out the music - it's
something true Benz fans love. More than just vintage, this one
loves to be properly comfortable. So you get premium features like
power windows and cold-blowing air conditioning (the system was
even serviced within the last few years.) And the comfy bucket
seats, large/grippy steering wheel, and gated shifter make for a
terrific vintage driver experience.
Lift the hood and see the 2.8-liter straight-six motor that helped
Mercedes build its reputation for bulletproof cars. Bred for the
Autobahn, the silky smooth DOHC six purrs away under the hood,
giving an effortless feeling like it could cruise forever in hushed
silence at high speed. The transmission is a smooth-shifting
four-speed automatic, and the suspension is fully independent with
disc brakes at all four corners. This gives the 280C the reputation
for being both sporty and a high-end luxury car.
The sale comes with the owner's manual, service manuals, and
maintenance records. The proper investment in this coupe means you
can use it just as easily for a grocery-getter as it can be a
weekend pleasure cruiser. It's the best in Benz's robust and
beautiful reputation and ready to go home with you. Call now!
