Vehicle Description
1948 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe
Despite the approaching of WWII Ford introduced a redesign of their
vehicles in 1941. The design continued only 4 months into 1942
until all civilian automobile production was halted. When
production resumed in 1946 the body shape was similar but they now
had a new large horizontal grill to refresh the look. The hood was
also slightly widened and a center trim piece added. From Back To
The Future to Karate Kid and Grease these cars have been used
throughout many famous media projects. Henry Ford was able to view
a clay mold of what the 1949 Ford would look like but passed in
1947 so the Super Deluxe was the last car he had a direct hand in.
The Deluxe production stopped after 1948 which is the year of this
very clean coupe. It is a nicely built car that was put together to
be shown but also driven and enjoyed. It is a rust free car with no
history of rust or damage throughout its life. It currently resides
with its 3rd owner who purchased the car from the 2nd owner who is
also in Texas. It has always been garage kept and never driven in
bad weather. It has 1,291 miles on it since completion so is still
in great condition. The body is very straight and the exterior of
the car is a very classy gloss Black paint. This pairs perfectly
with these cars original chrome and stainless trim pieces which all
have a very nice shine. The glass is all in great shape and it
still has its original 2 piece windshield and side vent windows.
The wheels on the car are real Halibrands with knock off style
center caps and complement the exterior nicely. They are wrapped in
BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires that have plenty of tread left.
Under the hood is a stock small block Chevy 350 V8 that runs great.
It is topped off with a 4 barrel carburetor and custom air cleaner.
It has dual exhaust which sounds great and exits underneath the
rear bumpers. The motor is paired with a TH350 Automatic
transmission and Ford 8 inch rear end with 3.0 gears. The
suspension is the stock style leaf springs and shocks but the
original front axle has been modified with a power disc kit. It
also has power steering and even cruise control which clearly
indicates this thing was set up for the road. Running at 75mph it
is putting out around 2100 rpm.
The interior is very nicely done in a stock style with subtle
modifications. The original style Gray upholstery is in good shape
and it has a split bench seat up front with lap belts. The carpet,
headliner and door panels are all in good shape as well. The dash
is nicely painted Black and is where you will start to see some of
those modifications incorporated in. It has the original gauge
layout but now has VDO gauges, an underdash gauge pod, and a Moon
Equipment tachometer. The stock trim pieces all look great and in
the center of the dash a JVC AM/FM/CD player has been added. The
air conditioning system blows cold and utilizes underdash vents. A
painted tilt steering column sits in front of the driver and
features a banjo steering wheel and LED indicators. The trunk of
the car has a ton of storage space and currently houses the spare
and a ton of additional parts.
This cool cruiser is very nicely set up. You are going to enjoy
showing it off at shows as well as getting to drive it on the way
there.
