Vehicle Description
We love the Special Editions T/As, and the trim tag tells us this
1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is an Ohio-built WS4 car. So when
you have bold gold, T-tops, a loaded interior, a numbers-matching
V8, and a speedy sense of style, you know this is an awesome
T/A.
There's something very distinctive about the factory-correct Solar
Gold. It created one of the coolest coordinating packages around
when combined with the darker gold hood bird and golden snowflake
alloy wheels. So it was sort of like a custom car straight from the
factory. This one amps up the appeal because there was a good
respray later in life and they've made sure everything looks
correct, right down to the decals. Plus, the widebody appearance is
pure aggression - the headlights are individually separated; there
are large flares for each fender; and the spoiler covers the rear
from end-to-end. And everyone loves the attitude that comes from
the side scoops and the shaker hood.
Pontiac's hobnail cloth interior is just as famous on this
generation as houndstooth was for the first-gen Camaro. So we love
that you can take the T-tops out and share it all with the world.
This is meant to be a driver's car, and so everything looks good
for the kind of car you let everyone hop in on a whim and go for a
drive. And you'll also love how it's loaded with features like
power windows, power locks, electric rear defrost, an upgraded
AM/FM/cassette stereo, and provisions for factory air conditioning
(it will need servicing to blow cold again.) And you'll love
getting in the driver's seat and facing iconic components like the
Trans Am's special three-spoke steering wheel, cool machined
aluminum dash, and full gauge package with large speedo and
tach.
The 301 cubic-inch V8 is numbers-matching to the car, and it has an
authentic appearance right down to the decals. And while the shaker
hood might only be a display piece on this model year, Pontiac knew
it was just too cool not to have on the T/A. The tidy appearance
suggests proper respect. You'll even spot newer items like a newer
alternator and newer back half of the exhaust. It's a strong runner
and a good cruiser. So you can appreciate features like power
steering, power brakes, front discs, numbers-matching three-speed
automatic transmission, and sway bars front & rear. It makes for
quite a solid driver.
This is the true Special Edition golden Trans Am that has plenty of
classic features and a terrific driving attitude. So don't miss
