For Sale: 1960 Ford Thunderbird in Concord, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

The second-generation T-bird is arguably the most distinctive of the bunch. So when you find a barn-find style example with its factory-correct colors, smooth V8 power, and acres of chrome, you realize a car like this 1960 Ford Thunderbird is quite special.

The story we're told on this coupe is that it spent most of the 21st Century hidden away in storage. It was resurrected in 2018, where the body was soda blasted down to the bare metal, and it was resprayed with the (according to the door tag) factory-correct Raven Black car. So not only do you have one of the most desirable colors around, but this also has a cool story to go with it all. These second-generation cars are affectionately called "Squarebirds" because of their sharp angles. Still, the intricate lines of the wraparound chrome bumpers front and rear reveal much more going on with this design than its predecessor. It's more than just these bumpers competing with the paint for shine. There are bright details abound on the T-birds, including the little ornaments atop each front fender, the Thunderbird script on the rocket-shaped body side moldings, and the chrome grilles on the rear panels - all of which are excellent reminders of the new jet age. And that's the key to this coupe's presence today. So it's a full package with good chrome and straight panels for this kind of total quality that walks the right line of impressive while also being able to drive it without getting nervous.

We love the red and white vinyl inside. It has a distinct and radiant style against the dark and glossy exterior paint. The trim tag not only says this is the correct color, but we're told the resurrection/restoration kept everything but the headliner original. So while there are some details you may improve, we think this is quite well-preserved for a 60+-year-old. This best gives you the size and space to be a true cruiser. The button-top upholstery is even contoured in the rear for bucket-like comfort. And while you'll admire the intricate and shiny classic interior trim, this one hides a secret. The glove box hides an AM/FM stereo with USB and Bluetooth. So you have the best driving music and even hands-free calling. That makes for a much more enjoyable Sunday drive.

Under the hood is a proper 352 cubic-inch V8. Like the rest of the car, this has a highly correct-style presentation, but it was also given suitable investments for its resurrection/restoration. We're told this includes new components, like the hydraulic lifters, harmonic balancer, distributor, fuel pump, gas tank, and a new radiator. And this V8 is topped with a four-barrel carburetor with an electric choke. So you get an eager and smooth runner. So this classic remains a great boulevard machine, especially when aided by the right features such as the three-speed automatic transmission, power brakes, newer brake lines, upgraded front discs, a newer power steering pump, and a newer set of classic whitewall tires.

Complete with a shop manual, this Squarebird is special because it's a true classic with some terrific investment to keep it a solid cruiser. Call now!
