Vehicle Description
2010 Chevrolet Corvette GS Convertible
The legend of the Grand Sport started in secret. Famed Corvette
engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov sensed the threat of the Shelby Cobra
and wanted to create a lightweight version of the Corvette to rival
it. The result was one of the most coveted 'Vettes on the planet.
Duntov created a unique "birdcage" body frame, wrapped it in
thinner aluminum, and put in a 550-horsepower 377 cubic inch V8.
Once GM brass caught wind of the program, they shut it down. Of the
125 planned cars, only five were built. They were briefly raced,
with one even winning at Watkins Glen in 1963.
For consignment, a 45,392 mile little Arctic White Corvette with
3LT trimming, the GS package and it's also a convertible! On top is
a black canvas convertible, and some faux carbon fiber striping
added on for good looks. Interestingly enough with its non-hiding
head lighting, and this new grille it very much resembles the
anthropomorphic Lightning McQueen in the animated cartoon "Cars".
Am I right?! Huh?!
Note: This vehicle is sold with a Pennsylvania reconstructed
branding on the title***
Exterior
With that open mouth grille leading the way, Corvette manages to do
some throwback to some of the earlier versions with shark gill
venting on the front quarters, a subtle Corvette cove in the doors,
and the raked back windshield. A faux carbon fiber stripe has been
added to the forward hinged hood and sets off the white nicely.
This windshield is trimmed in black, and it sets off the black
canvas convertible top attaching behind this frame. All fiberglass
is near perfect and is painted in factory Arctic White with the
exception of paint work on the rear quarter paneland tail panel
which were repaired/replaced after an accident. The top folds
neatly into the rear flip up dual bumped cowling which butts up to
the trunk lid which is nearly rear vertical panel. This rear panel
has more throwback with the round tail lighting and cross flag
badge. Quad exhaust peeks out from the middle of a black rear roll
pan which houses the backup lighting. 18-inch in front and 19-inch
on back polished and chromed aluminum thin spoked wide rimmed
wheels, show through to the massive drilled disc braking and red
badged Corvette calipers.
Interior
We will put the top down for full views of this wonderful interior
clad in red and black leather. This covers beautifully fashioned
high-backed buckets with plenty of stitched overstuffed bolsters to
hold the passengers in when taking on several g's around corners.
Within the headrests are embroidered flag badges. A center console
races to the dash starting out with a black covered glove box lid
then turning to black where molded panels house the shifter and
eventually melting upwards into the temp controls and a large
AM/FM/CD changer stereo. This also supports Bluetooth and you can
use your phone throughout his device. A heads-up display dash is in
front of the driver, and another throwback is the fiberglass panel
between the seats has a small storage area just like Vette of yore,
and also a storage area for the top when lowered isdirectly behind
the seats. Nice clean carpeting in black covers the floors.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 6.2 Liter 376ci V8 LS3 mill which puts out a
factory rated 430hp. It is fed by EFI and has a 6L80E 6-speed
automatic transmission on backwith the paddle shifter option on the
steering wheel. A 2.56 limited slip rear axle finalizes our tour
and efficiently puts power to the pavement.
Undercarriage
Can you say showroom? That is exactly what it looks like
underneath, with nary even a hint of road dirt. Plenty of cast
aluminum parts and the sport suspension consists of independent SLA
double wishbone cast aluminum upper and lower control arms, a
transverse mounted leaf spring and monotone shock absorbers. Power
disc brakes are on all 4 corners. Also noted is the factory
installed dual exhaust.
Drive-Ability
Clean and mean for this machine which fires right up and runs like
the wind. Needless to say, it not only looks perfect but runs like
that too! The only flaw we noted was the absence of the cover for
the driver's sun visor, which allows the vanity lights to stay lit
and may drain the battery.
Plenty of WOW factor with this car including the snappy color,
beautifully contrasting canvas top, sporty wheels and high
performing mill under the hood. A true throwback to the Grand Sport
days of yore that will leave you with a smile for this little
Arctic White Corvette. That's why they call it the great American
Sports Car, and you can get right in and go!
