Introduced in 1976, the W123 platform included a four-door sedan and sleek coupe. In the U.S., the W123 was available in three body styles, coupe, sedan and wagon, but due to stricter emissions regulations in the US, a limited range of engines were available. Due to high demand, many cars for immediate purchase were offered in a sort of black-market with high premiums paid over sticker price.
