Vehicle Description
1976 Ford Thunderbird
The Ford Thunderbird was produced from 1955 until 1997 when their
was a brief break before the nameplate returned from 2002 to 2005.
Upon their initial release the cars were in the sports car field as
Ford's competitor to the Chevrolet Corvette. However, in 1958 a
rear seat was added and the market segment of "personal luxury
cars" followed. They had 11 distinct generations with this 1976
being the last year for the 6th. Following models would be slowly
downsized over time making this the last generation for the larger
wheelbase. The body is rust free and painted in the limited edition
Gold and Yellow combination. It has a very retro look with
multilayered pinstriping as well as a Landau vinyl top. It wears
its original bumpers, stainless trim and egg crate grill. It has
the dual front head lights and long rear taillight bar which are
all working properly. The car rides on a nicely polished set of
solid wheels like you would find on the 78/79 Lincolns and they are
wrapped with thin white wall tires.
To help get these large cars rolling 2 large displacement motors
were offered from the factory. This one received the larger
displacement 460ci V8 which was among the largest displacement V8
motors ever installed into a production vehicle by Ford. Everything
has a very stock look with the valve covers and snorkel air cleaner
being painted Ford Blue. The car is fully loaded with power brakes
and power steering making it a very nice driver. In addition to the
new tires the car just received 100% new brakes, all new shocks, a
new battery, new fuel filter, new oil filter, and new aluminum
radiator. In addition to those it was fully greased and got a fresh
service with oil change. It has an automatic transmission that
shifts smoothly and the car really is a nice driver with 63,000
original miles.
The interior is done in a two tone White and Gold leather which
nicely complements the exterior. It has high back bucket seats up
front with the dual folding center armrest. The dash features its
stock layout with all its original gauges, knobs, and switches. It
has an Philco AM/FM/Tape player and was also ordered with factory
AC which blows cold. The trunk is nicely carpeted and houses a
spare with cover.
This is a neat unique classic that you just don't see that many
of.
