Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1987 Buick Grand
National for sale. The Buick Grand
National offered here is powered by the original 3.8L Turbocharged
V6 with an intercooler.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic
transmission. The Buick Grand
National was the car to beat at the time of its production as it
could outrun any V8 at the time.
Setting this example apart is the sheer amount of work that has
been done to ensure driveability
and performance. Within the past five years it has received all new
stainless brake and fuel
lines, rubber brake hoses, all new brakes, shocks, other suspension
bits, Comp Cam valve
springs, a Roller Master billet timing set, the original radiator
was re-cored, and a completely
new AC system. Also installed were new tires, a new water pump, new
u-joints, and the original
radio/cassette was overhauled. The selling owner also notes that a
few performance mods were
installed that are undetectable to maintain a stock appearance.
Performance upgrades include a
3-inch stainless downpipe, 2.5-inch stainless dual exhaust, a Red's
Modified high-flow fuel
pump, 42-pound injectors, a larger TA49 turbo, and an RJC power
plate. Following the
installation of these upgrades this example was tuned by Brian
Lorenz at Lorenz Racing.
The exterior is finished in the original color black paint which
shows well. Throughout the car,
you will find the Grand National logo. The exterior, as part of the
Grand National package, also
features sport body-color mirrors. A note from the selling owner
states that the trunk lid and one
quarter panel were repainted due to some cracking in the paint.
Moving to the interior you will find a two-tone cloth interior that
is in immaculate condition. There
are no rips or tears to be found in any of the seats. The interior
features many creature comforts
to make this performance car more accessible to the masses. These
include cruise control, air
conditioning, a tilt steering column, and an electric rear window
defogger.
Mechanically this car is in good condition and comes with a thick
folder of recent maintenance
and receipts from the upgraded parts. With the sport suspension and
turbocharged engine, the
Grand National is truly an amazing car to drive and this is your
opportunity to get behind the
wheel.
In 1982, the Regal Grand National debuted, which was named for the
NASCAR Winston Cup
Grand National Series (the "Grand National" term was part of the
Cup series nomenclature until
1986). Buick had won the Manufacturers Cup in 1981 and 1982, and
wanted to capitalize on its
success: "What wins on Sunday, sells on Monday". After a brief sort
of experimental run, the
Grand National returned with an ahead-of-its-time turbocharged 3.8
liter V8 matching the power
of the big V8. While restrictions were high at the time, these mean
road warriors were definitely
in the front of the muscle car pack in the 1980s. According to
Motor Trend: Values are climbing
and will continue to for prime, unmolested examples. Please call or
