Description:
Finished in Capri Blue with white bumpers and a new black and gray
interior, this 1958 Volkswagen Single Cab Transporter Pickup is an
especially surprising discovery, given the model's rarity and the
stunning condition seen here. Benefiting from a body-off
restoration, the split-windshield single cab has only covered
51,000 miles from new, making it a fantastic specimen to restore.
The bed features new wood, and nearly every component seems to have
been addressed with the goal of taking this Transporter back in
time, back when it was new-and they seem to have achieved that
goal. From the period-correct bias-ply tires wrapping the steel
wheels, which are painted to match the bumpers and topped by
gleaming hubcaps, and rubber floormats as dictated by the factory
so long ago to the detailed engine and engine compartment to the
fasteners holding it all together, this Volkswagen pickup
transports viewers to another era. It would be fun to think if
that's why it was called Transporter. Built to be enjoyed, drivers
will love the front disc brakes and everyone will appreciate the
absolute simplicity of these Volkswagens. Simple vinyl upholstery
and all-steel construction made these some of the most utilitarian
vehicles in history. In a unique twist to pickup production, and
because the rear engine commanded a slightly higher-than-normal bed
height, the sidewalls can unlatch and fold down to allow much
easier access for loading and unloading of materials. The smaller
stature of the Volkswagen Transporter inspired many manufacturers
to bring similar vehicles to market, but it seems true that none
quite achieved the popularity of the Transporter. This one,
presenting so well and appearing in such condition, is a
wonderfully rare catch that's sure to bring smiles to most
everyone's face.
