Vehicle Description
1956 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Hardtop
For consignment a Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria from 1956. This
beauty sports a 312ci Thunderbird Special engine with a 4 BBL carb,
newly restored interior, an AM/FM radio, all new chrome, and
Vintage AC. Don't forget the swoop spear on either side. It's one
cool cat daddy-o.
Exterior
We are treated to straight steel panels, well minded gaps, and
wonderful 2 tone Peacock Blue with Colonial White. Breaking up and
highlighting the panels are shiny and mirror-like nuggets of chrome
trimmings and big multi level bumpers on front and back. Atop the
hood is a jet ornament, which was definitely the theme of times to
come. Just below is a perfect cloisonne Ford shield badge. On the
front quarter are the beginnings of the iconic swoop spear which
starts just above the headlights, and runs towards the mid door
where it takes a dive downward then levels off to trim the
delineation between the blue and white. Large chrome surrounds for
the windows and on the rear B pillar a wide wrap trim, which thins
out and runs to the end of the car on top of the rear fenders. A
wide rocket trim is open and the "basket handle" trim running
across the roofline begins on either side ope the B pillar trim. On
back, 2 simple round tail lights with a pointed backup triangular
shaped backup light just above. The Peacock Blue covers the lowers
and sides as well as the roof of the car, and the Colonial White is
on the hood, upper sides and trunk, what a great combo! A shout out
to all 4 corners with their chromed wire inserts and dish like
center hubs, wrapped in wide whites. I've got it made in the
shade.
Interior
More excess in the form of attention to detail and use of multi
colors from the same color way on the door panels. Using blue and
white, the door panels have a curved streak stretching across them.
All these curve and form areas for the door handle, door pull and
window crank to shine, and they do very nicely. Speaking of
shining, the sills are an eye catcher in chrome. Slipping our eyes
inside, we see front and rear benches stretching from door to door,
and covered in white vinyl and have fern-like blue damask fern-like
inserts that are squared off at the back and fronts. Fronting these
luscious seats is a metal dash in full restored style. Blue dash
top and lowers with a wide white stripe running through the center
matches the seats. A semicircular gauge cluster is on a white
background. Seen is a newer AM/FM radio, and Vintage AC. A big blue
bakelite steering wheel fronts the dash, blue carpeting floods the
floors, and above is a tight white headliner broken up by the wide
chromed basket handle. Neato!
Drivetrain
Under that big hood, is the original to the car 312ci V8 engine.
This was also restored and rebuilt, and shows in a Ford red block
with red cylinder heads and cast ribbed valve coverings with a
Thunderbird badge in their centers. It is topped by a 4 barrel
carburetor, and on back is a 3 speed manual tranny with overdrive
pushing power rearward to a Ford 9 inch 4.11 rear axle. The engine
bay is very clean, hoses are supple and like new as is all wiring
and belts. 'Cmon snake lets rattle!
Undercarriage
Nicely preserved noting a tiny little surface rust, but mostly
clean and nice black steel structure all solid. Floor pans and
rockers are nicely coated in rustproofing, and dual glass pack
exhaust has been put on doubling the original so there could be
dual pipes sticking out the rear of the bumper. Independent coil
springs for the front suspension and leaf springs are on the back
and power drum brakes are all around. That razzes my berries.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and just a neat car to drive that idles like a
dream, and it's a good dream. She accelerates smoothly going
through the gears and up to a smooth cruising speed. The ride is
excellent. Cornering is good for 1956, and stopping is very quick
with the power brakes. The clock is in-op, the heater blower is
weak, and the Treadle-Vac is a bit weak causing a soft pedal.
Motion the car hop over, I need a malt!
A 3 owner car, where it underwent a full body redux, interior
recovering much like the original, and a full engine rebuild. Since
then, a new fuel pump, carburetor, Vintage AC and an AM/FM radio
have been added. All newly re-chromed, (and this is saying a lot!).
Drives like a dream, and a real head turning cruiser, bestowing our
Hallowed Halls here at Classic Auto Mall, and ready for the
turn-key taking. I'm digging it.
