For Sale: 1932 Packard 902 in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Vehicle Description

1932 Packard 902 Convertible/Coupe

The Packards of the ‘30s were considered to be the Rolls Royces of American cars, and to many Packard aficionados the 1932 902 rumble seat convertibles represented a styling high point of the marque.

Professionally Restored in 2008

This 1932 Packard was restored starting in 2008 and completed approximately two years later, including:

  • Valves/seats replaced
  • Carburetor was restored
  • Braking system rebuilt
  • Fuel system rebuilt with tank professionally cleaned
  • All exterior chrome was polished; one small piece re-chromed
  • Dash and window garnish moldings re-grained
  • Paint freshened
  • Wire wheels were powder-coated
  • Trippe lights were fitted
  • Wide white wall tires installed on 6 wire wheels
  • Extensive restoration and service records

Nice from Top to Bottom

  • Paint and Body

The second owner, a well-known local businessman, added the cream paint to an originally all black car.  In the 2008 restoration, the color of the body molding was changed to black to match the fenders, and was surrounded by a Packard Red pinstripe.  The paint is nice driver-quality.

This Packard has twin side-mount spare tires, each capped with a side view mirror leaving the rear clear of mounted spares that would interfere with the fold-down trunk carrier.

And, of course, what would a fancy ‘30’s luxury convertible be without a golf door to put your “sticks” in? This has one that would have satisfied Ben Hogan.

The external chrome was in excellent condition and now, recently polished, looks as nice as it did back in 1932.

The convertible top is in good condition and, combined with roll-up windows in the doors makes the car somewhat rain resistant.

Interior

The interior was reupholstered and is in excellent condition.

The dash and the window garnish moldings were stripped and re-grained  and look much as they did when the car was in the Packard showroom in 1932.

The rumble seat was reupholstered at the same time as the cockpit and is in excellent condition, with wide passenger steps to allow entry and exit for those in the rear.

  • Engine

The top end of the engine has been rebuilt, resulting in a motor that purrs to life with the press of the starter button.

  • Transmission

The car shifts reliably through its 3-forward gears and reverse.

  • Wheels and Tires

Wide-whitewall tires were installed on the car’s six powder-coated wire wheels.  Chrome hubcaps with the famous Packard black and red motif adorn the wheels

  • .Trippe Lights

Trippe fog/safety lights were added to complete the look had they been ordered with the car when new.

An Exceptional Opportunity

There is one phrase that can best describe this 1932 Packard: Classic Elegance! These 902s are relatively rare cars in any condition because of the limited number produced during the Great Depression.  If you’ve always wanted an early 30’s Packard, this is the one to buy; and if you’ve never experienced the elegance of a Packard first-hand, this is the one to see!
