This DB6 Volante was original delivery to its first registered
owner, Mr. J. T. Dorrance by Aston Martin dealer at the time,
Kennan Motors. Kept in Mr. Dorrance's ownership for a few short
years, the DB6 Volante found itself in the ownership of well-known
Arizona collector, Mr. Mel Ritter who has extremely close ties with
Aston Martin here in the USA, his son, Doug Ritter having been in
charge of the United State Aston Martin factory parts department
and warranty departments based out of King of Prussia, PA. Also
within the Ritter collection was a rare Radford DB5 Shooting Brake,
1980 V8 Volante with European specification Vantage engine (not
sure how that entered the United States ?? ??, as well as Doug's
x-AM Distributor DBSV8, in Bahama Yellow a la Roger Moore and The
Persuaders. All Ritter Aston's were extremely well-known in the
AMOC Club circles and events.
The Aston collection was held long term in each Aston's case. The
DB6 Volante on offer today was purchased by Autosport Designs, Inc.
when contacted by Mr. Ritter, March 2002, his belief we would give
his Volante its next proper and loving home. At this time, the DB6
Volante was showing only 33,710 original miles and in superb
concours condition.
The DB6 Volante was sold almost immediate to Mr. R. Phillips, CT
and joined his stable of Aston's, DB6 Vantage Coupe, and V8
Volante. Prior to taking deliver, the original automatic Borg
Warner "slush box" transmission was converted by Autosport Designs
to a factory original ZF 5-speed manual gearbox. At this time we
performed a full servicing to start fresh with the Phillip's
ownership.
After being used and shown for several years, the DB6 was entrusted
the Vantage Motors, Stamford, CT. Marjan and Michael Kraljevic are
well known and respected for their work on Aston's, Marjan having
worked for several years at Aston Martin Vintage Racing in the
Livanos Aston Martin ownership era.
In the years to come, the DB6 Volante was treated to a sympathetic
restoration, when and where need, simply due to the DB6's super
condition having been extremely well-cared for from day one. Over
the next few years, the DB6 Volante was repainted by Dwayne
Nosworthy, Westchester Classic Coach and the interior and top were
refinished as per factory by Johan Merkhofer, Coachtrim LLC. Both
are extremely well-known and respected for their work having been
involved with several Pebble Beach Concours winning restorations.
Vantage Motors took care of any and all mechanicals making sure the
DB6 was ready and able for road use, touring pleasure as well as
concours use. The engine compartment and undercarriage have been
correctly restored, serviced and detailed throughout and with
originality in mind.
The DB6 Volante was kept in the Phillip ownership through 2017 when
it was offered along with the majority of this collection due to
impending divorce as these things go. Purchased by a well-known
dealer, it has been in his care since and only recently has it
returned to home and Autosport Designs, Inc.
I recently had the good fortune to drive this DB6 Volante from
Northern California to Carmel with my son and it proved excellent
in every way, without any disappointments with the feeling that it
had indeed returned home. Not only did I have a smile on my face,
but it felt as though the DB6 was extremely happy to have rekindled
our relationship as well.
This rare, original LHD DB6 Volante is offered in excellent
condition and with complete ownership and service history from
almost new.
