-Orient Red with Palomino leather interior, Palomino carpeting,
24,000 original miles, 5.0 liter V-8, Automatic Transmission.
The origins of the W126 Coupe date back to October 1973, when
Mercedes Benz codenamed "Project W126," the project had specific
goals: an improved ride, better handling, and improved fuel
efficiency, as well as a brilliant new concept and design led by
Mercedes-Benz's Bruno Sacco. After six years of development, the
application of lighter materials and alloys combined with extensive
wind tunnel testing to reduce overall drag, meant the car was a
much more efficient package than its predecessor. The W126 was
formally introduced at the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung
(International Motor Show, or IAA) in Frankfurt on September
1979.
This carefully kept collector example is superb in every respect -
it has covered approximately 700 miles per year and has been
serviced when and where needed. The factory maintenance booklet
indicates service stampings to15k miles. Sold new by Astorg Motor
Co. to Mr. R. Azar, who kept the SEC until 2001, when the car was
passed on to its second owner, covering just 10,600 miles. Current
ownership began in 2004 with just 19,000 miles and the car was
leisurely enjoyed, accumulating just 5,000 miles in 17 years.
Original paintwork, leather, carpeting and woodwork all present in
utterly fantastic condition and the original Becker Grand Prix
radio is present, as are the original unopened tools and unused
spare tire. In addition the original books, data plate, and
showroom hang tags accompany the sale.
An extremely rare opportunity for the Mercedes collector, this
unusual specification and color SEC is ready for immediate Concours
or Touring use.
