Vehicle Description
This 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4 is plenty ready to pull double duty
as soon as you get it home: super clean, commuter during the week
and a very capable all-terrain workhorse on the weekends. It still
features its original-spec 5.7L V8 drivetrain, comes loaded with
pretty much everything offered by Chevy in 1998, sits atop a beefy
upgraded suspension lift, looks about as clean as you'll ever see,
and it running as strong today as it did 25 years ago. These first
generation Tahoes are the next big thing, with values already
skyrocketing up each year. It's incredibly difficult to come across
an OBS Tahoe this clean, making this a very special find
indeed.
It's such a sharp looking SUV - just turning 25 years old and
becoming an official classic, it has a rugged, vintage look that
sets it apart from its later-arriving counterparts, yet retains
such a fresh appearance that you'll be more than halfway convinced
of its road-readiness even before the first turn of the ignition.
The Black paint is the truck's original shade and it presents very
well - even with consistent sheltering from the elements, cars of
this vintage rarely look as good as this one. By all accounts this
is a faithful respray (GM paints from the '90s never lasted long,
in particular the clearcoats peeled so most of these have been
repainted), but when the work was done a few years back it finished
the right way, and it still looks great today. It's not perfect, as
it has been driven and enjoyed since, but it's been very well-kept
through the years and the minor imperfections that can be seen
could likely be eradicated with a professional buff-and-wax. The
distinctive front grille, with its two layers of stacked lights and
gold Chevy emblem at the center, sits straight as a ruler over the
bumper and, as you take a lap around this Tahoe, you'll see that
the years have left it in good stead. Its body lines are precise,
with even gaps surrounding the doors and hood - both of which open
and close easily. The glass on all four sides is also in impressive
shape, and those long, tinted panes in back contribute a lot toward
this Tahoe's unique appearance. The slightly aggressive cowl hood
looks super-cool, matching the chin spoiler, roof rack, oversized
side mirrors, and long nerf bars at the flanks in terms of
tough-looking add-ons, giving this big Tahoe a beefy off-road
presence that we all love.
The Smoke Gray cloth interior has also come through the years in
fairly strong fashion, resulting in a comfortable, broke-in look
and feel that really works well for this Tahoe. From the plush
padded surfaces of the bucket seats (the seat covers are in place
because the front seats do show some wear in the leather), to the
matching rear bench and the spacious cargo area behind it, nothing
shows anywhere near the level of wear you'd likely expect after two
decades of faithful service. Sure, there are some signs of
wear-and-tear, but if you're familiar with these SUVs, then you'll
know this is definitely one of the better ones you'll ever find.
The door panels on each side still sit securely to their steel
frames and the matching carpeting lining the floor insulates the
cabin. In front of the factory-issued steering wheel, the dash area
sports an array of clear, functional gauges in its instrument
cluster and the dash pad running across the top has developed the
typical cracks most of these do, so it's been hidden underneath a
carpeted mat. The level of functionality on hand here has to be
seen to be fully appreciated - in addition to the factory gauges,
every control switch and knob appears to work just as intended and
the air conditioning is capable of cooling down the cockpit in
short order. Comfort and convenience features include a tilting
column, cruise control, sunroof, airbags, A/C, power windows and
door locks, and aftermarket parts include a remote starter and a
Sony multi-media head unit that powers a booming stereo system and
manages a back-up camera.
Everything remains in factory configuration under the hood except
for the addition of a K&N cold air intake, and what's likely
the original, fuel injected 5.7 liter V8 starts up nicely and runs
very smoothly. Anyone that takes a closer look is immediately aware
that this SUV has been impeccably cared for (and we have gigantic
book of receipts to back up that claim), and the engine in
particular has benefitted from plenty of that attention over the
years as it pairs with a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with
overdrive. The four-wheel drive on this Chevy sits within close
reach and is a breeze to activate, making it very easy to prepare
for exploits off the asphalt, and a heavy-duty 10-bolt rear end is
virtually bulletproof. JBA headers feed into a throaty Magnaflow
dual exhaust system that's sounds absolutely fantastic, exiting
underneath the rear bumper at either side of the tow bar. The clean
undercarriage looks incredibly solid and well positioned to provide
a foundation for many future fun-filled miles, and thanks to the
addition of a BDS suspension lift and Rancho adjustable shocks at
all four corners, this Tahoe is capable to drive over just about
anything you put in front of it. Power front disc brakes bring this
Chevy to prompt stops, while power steering makes it very easy to
navigate on its set of modern 15" Eagle Alloy wheels outfitted with
31x10.5x15 Toyo off-road tires.
This 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4 has been thoroughly sorted, and is
