Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to bring to your attention this 1966
Ford Econoline Super Van. The van has spent most of its life in
Northern Michigan on Beaver Island and Traverse City where it was
used at the Cherry County Playhouse. The van has some sign of
obvious age to it but has aged well and has good bones and will
make a cool addition to any collection. It is powered by its 240 6
cylinder with a 3 speed manual on the tree.
This Supervan also has a roof rack and rides on factory 14 inch
wheels with factory hubcaps and comes with spare tire. In its body
design, the Ford Econoline adapted several elements of the
Volkswagen Type 2, while making major departures with other design
features to accommodate its midengined layout. In line with
Volkswagen, the Econoline positioned the front seats above the
front axle, making it a cabover-style configuration (similar to the
Jeep Forward Control). The grille placed below the headlights was a
design feature borrowed loosely from the Ford Thames 400E (a
predecessor of the Ford Transit).
