Vehicle Description
1970 Plymouth Duster 340
The Duster, Chrysler's sporty competitor for the Chevy Nova and
Ford Maverick, resulted from the Plymouth division's desire to use
allotted 1970 restyling money for something more exciting than
their usual two and four-door Valiants. If you're a hardcore Mopar
fan who wants a smoking hot A-body to cruise around in and shred
tires with, you've found your next car!
For consignment, a fully restored Duster 340. This is a turnkey car
for a Mopar fanatic who wants to get into the muscle car game for a
very reasonable price. Yellow with black stripes will attract lots
of eyeballs, and the combination of a recently rebuilt 360ci V8
stroked to a 408, a double pumper carburetor, original rally gauge
interior, and snappy wheels, this car is a looker and a cooker!
Exterior
This car bathed in yellow for the Plymouth appears in overall very
nice condition. Sculpted body panels, which add an unmistakable 70s
flavor to the car's vintage design. Between those marker lights,
bold "DUSTER" fender and belt line striping that runs the length
and undulates with the body styling. In the end it has a 340 badge
also in black. A dual scooped hood is on in contrasting black and
has some horizontal yellow peeking through the black small stripes
that seem to fade as they run toward the windshield and form a V
pattern. At the back of the car, a yellow valence hangs a just off
centered "DUSTER 340" script between broad horizontal tail lights,
a second original yellow bumper and traditional blackened stainless
exhaust tips. A black spoiler resides at the edge of the trunk deck
just above. 17 inch XXR wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped
in 4th week of 2018 rubber.
Interior
Swinging the doors reveals pure 70's design with some tuck and roll
black vinyl in the center, black smooth molded plastic for the
sills, and a vertical panel of wood applique framed in chrome.
Shiny knobs and a mirror joystick along with the actuator which is
in front of the armrest in shiny black vinyl. Sleek bolster less
high back buckets with no headrest delineation but they are nice
and high. These have vertical stitched panels for the inserts which
run right to the edge of the buckets. A rear bench is seen behind
and all seats are firm to the touch and show very little wear. A
center console also of sleek thin design is in black and has some
chrome trimmings in the edges which frame a wood applique in the
center. An ashtray and shifter is within the console and it runs
under the dash where it thins. Fairly clean and non faded black
carpeting floods the floors throughout. A wood veneer dash houses
near perfect gauges, the round speedo which goes up to 150mph,
tachometer and another round gauge cluster to drivers right. This
veneer inset stretches just past the radio which is aftermarket and
has AM/FM/CD capabilities. A new in 2022 upper padded dash is very
clean, and no cracks are seen. Lastly the headliner is pretty much
showroom condition. The trunk presents with a very nice liner, and
totally new paint and rust free.
Drivetrain
A recently built non original 360ci has been stroked to a consignor
stated 408ci V8 sits in a beautiful engine bay. It is presented
with a red/orange painted block and intake and has black cast
ribbed valve coverings as well as the air cleaner. It is fed
fossils and air by a Quickfuel 750 double pumper carburetor. On the
back is an A727 Torqueflite automatic transmission with a 2500
stall converter and reverse valve body. Turning the tires is the
rear axle which has been upgraded to a 8.75 inch Sure Grip unit,
with 4.10 gears and a 489 third member. New wiring and hoses have
been put on throughout, and all fluids were recently flushed and
freshened.
Undercarriage
Nothing but nice black undercoating on stamped steel and some
framing. No rust even the surface kind is pan this undercarriage.
We see new KYB shocks all around and these work with the
independent torsion bar front suspension and leaf spring rear
suspension. The car has been lowered 3 inches and has superstock
rear leaf springs. Headers and a Turbo Muffler system is clean and
green, (actually silver!). Correct 2 piston caliper front disc
braking is on along with refreshed with new pad drums on back.
Drive-Ability
My partner muscle car aficionado climbed in for the test drive and
reported it starts quickly, runs swimmingly, and accelerates at
neck snapping speed. Braking is very sufficient, and all functions
were in working order. A consignor list is provided of all work
recent and otherwise that has been performed on this car.
From the way back machine and we've landed in 1970 with a Duster
that lives up to its name and then some. Built to "clean up",
(tongue firmly in cheek), the competition and leave them
in...well...your dust! Just turn the key and you're off like a prom
dress.
