Whether you’re in the classic car world or not, you hear someone say “GTO”, your ears will likely perk up. Thats because the GTO was what many consider the first “Muscle Car”!. And since then the GTO has cemented its self deep into the depths of high performance lore.
When John Delorean came up with the genius idea of dropping a big engine into a mid-size car, it wasn’t long until the other brands followed suit, and to the delight of every car enthusiast, so began the Muscle Car wars that we now all look back on so fondly.
The GTO namesake, borrowed from Ferrari, in particular was certainly a street-force to be reckoned with, and muscled it’s way through the early 1970’s as such, and like many of our favorite high performance offerings after that time, receded into Musclecar history.
By the mid-2000’s America was finally getting to experience a wave of high performance cars not seen since the glory days!
The Pontiac GTO has always been in the minds of enthusiasts, and the Pontiac division of General Motors came up with a plan to resurrect the GTO moniker, and really stay true to the original idea of the GTO that Delorean had 40 years earlier. This new GTO was based on the GM Australian built Holden Monaro, and if you consider the development process, and styling cues at that time, the GTO for 2004, 2005, 2006, may have been a pretty close result of a GTO had it somehow continued through the dark automotive years of the 1980’s, and 90’s.
Utilizing the same engine as the 2005, 2006, and 2007 Corvette, this later model GTO will accelerate, handle, provide comfort, and fuel economy that it’s ancestor couldn’t have even conceived of.
This particular GTO, finished in the rarest color available, and only in the 2006 model year, has been very well maintained, and otherwise very well taken care of.
If you want a cool car to drive everyday that has stunning performance, and nearly as stunning fuel economy, that you can drive anywhere, in comfort, with an element of uniqueness…This GTO would certainly work for you!
