Vehicle Description
1967 Chevrolet Nova Station Wagon
The first station wagons were built around 1910 by independent
manufacturers producing wooden custom bodies for the Ford Model T
chassis. They were originally called "depot hacks" because they
worked around train depots as hacks, (short for hackney carriage,
as taxi cabs were then known).
For consignment, a 1967 Chevrolet Nova station wagon which has been
treated to some modernizationbringing it up to Pro-Touring
standards. A powerful6.0 LS engine,5-speed manual transmission,
Church Boys suspension and painstaking attention to detail
throughout makefor one seriously badass and super clean hauler.
Approximately500-600 miles have been logged since the completion of
the build, so gather up your friends...it's time for a throwback
road trip in an updated long roof!
Exterior
Jeez, where do I start...I could just say it's all great, and be
scary as to my accuracy, but I digress...a shiny chrome egg crate
grille with single headlights flanking either side, all surrounded
by beautiful trim work, and held up by a very clean bumper with no
faults in the chrome. A steel cowl induction style hood makes its
way back to near flawless glass surrounded by polished trim.
Covering the expansive passenger compartment is the highlight in
this writer's opinion...the elusive longus roofus, which is held in
place by a full greenhouse of lightly smoked glass allowing your
passengers to watch the scenery streak by, albeit at a very fast
pace. Near flawless steel panels make up the slabbed sides, and
they align just perfectly, and are spattered with newly plated
polished handles, mirrors, but to give a more sleek look all
badging save for the Chevy II on the rear fenders have been
removed. Bringing up the rear is a clean steel tailgate with a
crank down window which also opens to allow room for your road trip
gear. Flanking the rear gate area are chrome trimmed tail lights,
with a bumper below, all polished to factory looks and to the
bottom right is a small LSX emblem to let the competition know what
powers this ride. The paint is stunning on this car and is the deep
end of the pool red and has been applied, buffed and waxed to
perfection. Black 5 spoke with polished lip Weld wheels are on in
17" a format and are shod in 205/50R17 and 265/45R17 like new
rubber front and rear. Just flawless!
Interior
All newly upholstered seats, new carpet, and a new steering wheel
all dressed in red vinyl, and a chrome emblem installed in each
seat back...oh and add more chrome on the doors to be even more
matchey and cool! Between the stylish buckets is a red leather
booted shifter mounted within a red leather covered console with a
Holley Terminator X controller front and center where the console
meets the dash. The factory gauges have been replaced by a Holley
dash display that provides a multitude of engine read-outs and is
fronted by a tilt steering column and a rally style red leather
wrapped Billet Specialtiessteering wheel with a mixture of brushed
aluminum and black in the spokes. Dash central holds the factory
heater slides that nowcontrol a Vintage Air heating and cooling
unit and above is a textured black radio delete panel. There's
something to be said about the ease of entry with a 4 door and we
can easily access the factory back seat which is just as nice as
the front buckets. As mentioned, new red carpeting floods the
floors and a red ribbed vinyl headliner hangs tightly above. Moving
to the way back, more clean red carpeting highlights the red vinyl
side panels and we can see that the rear bench seat is foldable for
extra hauling room. Very clean and all first class....
Drivetrain
6.0 Liters in LS form of a tire shredding V8 are happily mounted in
a pristine engine compartment home. This mill has been built to the
hilt and is fresh with a new B&R camshaft making a very capable
500 consignor-stated ponies. To help make those numbers, a Holley
Terminator X EFI system with all new Holley wiring is on to feed
copious amounts of air and fuel to the mill. A Tremec 5-speed
manual transmission with a heavy duty clutch is bolted to the back
and power flows back to a Fab 9 aluminum center section 35 spline
Ford 9" axle weighing in with a 3.70 ratio (say that 3 times fast).
Total visual eye candy under the hood, even down to the heavy duty
aluminum radiator and clean black inner fenders.
Undercarriage
Starting at the rear we see a custom modified EFI fuel tank and
just ahead is the leaf spring rear suspension with adjustable
shocks and Wilwood rear disc brakes. Moving forward we see welded
in subframe connectors, stainless steel brake lines and braided
lines for the fuel. Up front is a Church Boys independent coil over
front suspension with more Wilwood disc brakes. Stainless steel
headers snake down from the engine and a fully tig welded stainless
steel exhaust system is on which ends just behind the rear tires.
Black solid steel abounds for the unibody and flooring as well as
the rockers...Amen!
Drive-Ability
So we piled in and took her for a spin and its raring to go on
another road trip. Good smooth acceleration, smooth shifting from
the Tremec, and solid bias free braking. All functions were working
with the exception of the AC which requires a new line and charge
to be functional (the line is included with the purchase), and it
is great driver with a very modern feel.
I remember going on road trips as a kid and my sister and I would
fight for who would get to sit in the way back and give the arm
pump to truckers whoshared the highway. We'd pull over and mom and
dad would have sandwiches for us and dad would pop the hood to cool
her down, (this was a 60's thing). Good times are to be had with
this once mundane family hauler, all ready and waiting in the North
Mallway of our Hallowed Halls.
