For Sale: 1974 Ford F100 in North Canton, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Same owner for over 30 years, Bought in Ocala Fla area, Solid Steel Body, XLT Model, Factory Air Conditioned, Custom Cap & Graphics, Ford Chrome Rims, Service Records, Two Tone Paint Scheme, Slight Modifications but mostly Original style

Current owner found this XLT in 1989 while living in the Ocala Florida area. He was told it had come from Georgia. He put approx 70k on the truck and enjoyed it in nice weather and attending car shows. Shortly after his purchase an engine overhaul was performed including machining of the engine block and a 600 Holley install. Transmission and rear end service and maintenance performed later as needed (see bill in pics). Repaint with slightly different color scheme performed a few years after purchase as well as installation of custom bed cap and custom graphics on body and under cap. ( Upper Cab was originally cream with cream body sides. Owner also had new chrome rear bumper, sliding rear window, and Ford Chrome wheels installed. Summer of 2022 New pads front and new rear shoes installed along with new right front caliper, new steering box, exhaust leak repair, and new dash board panel that the repair shop just happened to have. ( see pics of old and new panel installed) Note- rear end is approx 2.50 Positraction

Inspecting all PHOTOS will help you understand trucks condition better

DETAILS OF TRUCK:

Paint

  • Repaint performed sometime around 1993 to 1996 per owner and the great condition it exhibits today is a testament to the prep and work that was performed. (see pics)

  • Dark Brown upper paint is very shiny and matches well with maybe a light scuff on RR quarter but almost no wear or damage

  • Front of hood has 8-10 approx pin head sized nicks

  • Light orange peal in finish that is typical of factory paint in that era

  • Not a custom top quality Show paint finish and fish eyes do exist at several per square foot on upper panels but show up mostly under bright florescent lighting

  • Lighter side body paint matches well with less fish eyes then flat surfaces.

  • Owner explained a small crease (6-8”) was repaired on RR corner under the XLT emblem and can barely be seen at a certain angle (see pics)

  • Owner later remembered having left door repainted for some reason and never took back to have polished out. This door has slightly less shine but matches fine.

Body

  • Body metal panels all seem straight and similar to production in that time

  • Upon examining in bright florescent light at an angle, you will see it isn’t laser straight but very correct for that time

  • Fits of hood, cowl, doors, tailgate, are fairly consistent with factory builds but being critical, I think the left door could maybe be adjusted to the rear a bit.

Magnetic paint gauge

  • Several random tests were made on all metal panels of the body and we had magnetic pull on all test verifying steel. Focus was on every couple square feet and around wheel lips, rockers, tailgate, cab corners, quarters, doors, fenders, and door edges

  • Readings were mostly in the 15-30 mils range and were fairly consistent

Bright Work

  • Upper and lower side moldings all seem secured well and in proper place, all shiny with good reflective quality. RF shows slight damaged spot

  • Front and rear bumpers are shiny and reflective and show well but when within 1ft away, you will see a very slight pitting of the surface

  • Front grille and rear tail light bezels appear well but finish shows some age

  • Side mirrors and mounts, antenna mount, wiper arms, rain vents and windshield surround molding are almost impeccable. Door handles are nearly of this quality as are spears and hinges on bed cap. (see pics)

Glass

  • All glass appears very clear with no discoloring, delamination, cracks, or bulls eyes or wiper wear

  • All side glass seems to have a tint applied while windshield seems more of a factory tint with a darker band along the top

  • Windshield has Ford emblem, left vent shows Car lite emblem and others we could not detect

  • We do see light vertical scratches at the back of drivers glass and front edge of pass glass being critical. It might be in the glass or possibly in the tint only (see pics)

Custom Cap

  • Installed by Current owner in early years of ownership

  • Contains mural designed for owner with this truck and a SS Impala the owner also owned

  • Unique shape with 2 nice quality spear moldings and 2 hinges, lift struts, lock & key and light fixture

Interior

  • Interior theme pretty much as it was when built new

  • New seat material and headliner installed years ago by current owner / drivers seat has wear spot

  • New top dash panel just installed, and most dash controls show minimum wear

  • Glove box contains owners manual

  • Note- Owner didn’t realize heater core was seeping and rusted floor board on pass side. Core was repaired and new (ordered to fit) floor board section welded in. See pics of repaired floor. New insulation was also installed under rubber mat. (see pics)

Cargo Bed

  • Bed floor appears solid with good finish and just a little surface rust where water lays after washings

  • Heavy rubber mat protects flooring

Tires and Wheels

  • 4- 255-60-15 Goodyear Eagle GT II (date codes 1510 & 1710) 5-6/32 on each

  • Chrome wheels look like that of a couple year old car with being highly reflective and minimum wear. LF does have a little surface pitting (see pics)

  • Tires do not show any outward side damage or cracking

  • Spare tire and wheel locked under bed (see pics)

Engine Bay Area

  • Engine bay area exist pretty much as it was built and designed new

  • Mirror effect on underside of hood, Aluminum radiator and performance air cleaner installed by owner

  • Pictures were taken prior to steering box replacement and exhaust repair

Chassis

  • Chassis pictures will best explain bottom side of truck

  • You are viewing this underside in it’s natural condition without any paint or undercoat covering. Light surface rust on some components

  • You can see the installation of the pass side floor pan insert and dual exhaust

Test Drive

  • Chad and the owner went on a test drive together around town and on expressway, Don drove 1st and Chad drove back.

  • Engine operates as designed and accelerates and slows smoothly / Transmission up shifts and downshifts in all 3 speeds as needed / no unusual sounds including rear end / Brakes stop smoothly without pulsation or pulling / steering seems proper and smooth and goes down road straight. Truck seems to drive and ride as designed with no obvious problems.

  • When cold, Chad pressed gas pedal to the floor 1 time and it fired right up on correct fast idle. 30 seconds later hit pedal once and it went right down to normal smooth idle.

  • When cold engine runs at fast idle, oil pressure gauge reads 50-55 lbs. When engine fully warm and at idle, gauge shows about 25 lbs oil pressure and volts reading about 14
