A distinctive year, rare color, and plenty of features - this 1982
Chevrolet Corvette was already pretty darn desirable even before
you saw the value price.
The first thing that strikes you about this coupe is the color. The
factory-correct Charcoal Metallic was only offered for two years
and there were believed to be less than 1,800 examples total over
the full run. But rarity doesn't mean every car needs to be tucked
away. Every Corvette is a great driver's machine, and this one
celebrates by being an easy any-time driver. So you can use the
value price to update the body and finish, but right now we like
its mix of sleek lines and an overall style that lets you get out
there and enjoy it. And there are plenty of cool details, like the
classic alloys that defined these later C3s. And the red pinstripe
along the profile and hood cowl look distinct against the gray
while also offering a preview of the interior.
There's just something extra attractive about a red interior. It
was an upgrade to this vibrant color later in life, and there were
even some additional investments that make it an even more focused
driver. This includes the bucket seats redone in a comfy velour and
an updated sports steering wheel on the tilt/telescopic column. You
can even take the comfort up a notch by restoring the air
conditioning or adding a modern stereo of your choice. And you
already know nothing beats the feeling of taking out the T-tops and
letting the wind pass through as you enjoy the open road.
Part of what makes this a true driver's classic is what you'll find
in the engine bay. The 350 cubic-inch V8 has a carbureted setup
with a new four-barrel on top. So while you'll enjoy the car from
day one, it also can be the right setup for those who like to
tinker and tune on the weekends and even add some more performance
components to the hardy small block. There are other nice
additions, too, like the HEI distributor and a fresh air cowl hood
arrangement. Part of the reason to really love the last of the C3s
is that these love to be real cruisers. They were built with the
new 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment,
and that means highway-ready overdrive. The fully independent
suspension, power steering, and four-wheel power disc brakes are
all part of this grand touring feeling, too. So this is a
well-priced classic that wants you to hit the road.
This is the last of the C3s, and this one gives you a great
driver's attitude to properly enjoy it. The value price even leaves
room in your budget to personalize this classic even further. So
