For Sale: 1971 Chevrolet Corvette in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1971 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

The 1971 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the least changed from the previous year. This was the aftermath of the labor problems during '69 and '70. The biggest changes are in the motor to reduce the octane requirements from previous years as mandated by GM. This took higher priority than any cosmetic changes. One thing that was changed was the parking light lenses, most 71's have amber lenses although some early production models have clear. The resin process used to form body parts was also updated to increase quality. This was the last year for the M22 "Rock Crusher" heavy duty transmission. It was named the "Rock Crusher" because of the sounds it made when shifting. Still no black Vettes' this year on the standard order sheet.

For consignment, a very original 1971 Stingray base version of the classic Corvette. Looking exactly the part of an unrestored and honest car with its blue body over blue vinyl, NCRS 96.8 point winner, and numbers matching small block powerplant. It includes a shipping sheet and all NCRS judging paperwork. We present to you a very nice and straight fiberglass and chrome, consignor stated 25,687 original mile, (non-verifiable as the title read miles exempt), soft top and body matching hardtop, and the timeless Corvette lines, this car draws looks wherever it goes.

Exterior
Bridgehampton Blue, in what our consignor states is the original paint, bathes the body of this shark, however you should make the determination for yourself on this statement, as there is evidence of a respray on the radiator support as well as a few sand marks down low on the body, but still presenting very nice. A few minor faults in the form of paint chipping, blistering and spider cracks are seen but still looking just great with chrome bumpers, and all britework is like new. In 1971, fender flares were designed into the body contours to reduce wheel-thrown debris damage. In the sides of the front quarters are curved air venting with a Stingray badge. Egg-crate grills and larger squared front directional lamps are noted and correct for this year, working in tandem with the hidden headlights. Up top is the original white canvas soft top with a clouded plastic rear window and a body matching hardtop is included with your purchase should you want to brave the colder climates. Bright and shiny stainless trimmings are on either rocker and on back are the quad of round taillights and the split rear accenting bumper in chrome. 15 inch deep dish rally wheels are on all 4 corners, and are wrapped by raised white letter BF Goodrich TA radials to round out the package.

Interior
Slipping inside, you'll pass by blue molded door panels, some shiny knobs and actuators. Inside high back thin styled buckets with breathable vinyl mesh inserts and shiny bolsters are covering the chairs. Some light dirt is within these inserts and they present as used but are the factory originals. A nice center console races from back to front, and the black ball topped shift lever resides here. Just above is the AM/FM sound system, which is still stock, and above that the aircraft styled gauge cluster of 5 gauges monitors all the necessary vitals. Deep inset round gauges are in front of an original rally steering wheel. Original blue carpeting for the floors and rear storage/top down area, and presents well with only minor staining.

Drivetrain
Within the unrestored engine bay which shows some slight patina we see the orange/red painted GM block and ribbed aluminum valve coverings. A chromed air cleaner covering is hiding the correct Rochester 4-barrel carb, and a reminder this is a number matching 350ci V8 engine, (C11S120330 V0615CJL) which produces 270hp. A numbers matching 4-speed manual Muncie M20 transmission is on back. The rear axle is an AX stamped unit which denotes 3.36 gearing and Positraction. Our consignor has also provided a photo album showing stamping dates and part numbers for all engine accessories and they are original and correct.

Undercarriage
The frame, floor pans, and rocker panels are all perfectly unrestored with the natural finish of the flooring as well as some surface rust on the frame and untreated components. A dry underside with virtually no drips or faults can be viewed with the car on a lift. No problems to report here! Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners, and we see an independent coil spring front suspension working with a frame anchored differential with a transverse leaf spring in the rear. Dual exhaust with factory style mufflers is on for the exhale, looking just dandy and like new.

Drive-Ability
This writer just adores these early 70's Corvettes and I had to take this one out. It fired right up, and the test track proved to be a great drive with fast acceleration, great handling and bias free panic stopping. All functions were working well with the top down and the sun in my thinning hair and it is a comfortable cruiser too!

There's something about a blue over blue car that gets my juices flowing, especially with the originality and NCRS Top Flight award. If that same rush of emotion hits you the same, you need to check out our latest almost all original 1971 'Vette. Very rarely do we see a car from this year in this condition. All numbers matching drivetrain and an interior that is mostly blemish free and appears showroom new. Visit us at Classic Auto Mall, tour our Hallowed Halls, and see this classic, you will not be disappointed.
