The story of the Kaiser Motor Company is a short one with the
company producing vehicles from 1945 until 1955. With their unique
and very stylized designs, the Kaiser Motor Company experienced
some early success in the automotive market with strong sales. Over
the years, the production costs of being a smaller manufacturer
prohibited Kaiser from being able to compete with Chevrolet, Ford
and Dodge. In 1953, the Kaiser Dragon was produced to compete
against the highest trim levels that the "Big 3" produced.
Unfortunately, the high price of the Dragon ($600 more than the
Buick Roadmaster) kept sales at a mere 1,227 units and the model
was not continued for 1954. This 1953 Kaiser Dragon is a very
original example of these rare, luxury sedans. This Kaiser Dragon
presents very well in its correct, Stardust Ivory exterior. The
exterior paint shines very well with only minor defects present in
the paint. The exterior is complimented nicely by its factory
stainless and chrome trim, factory 14K gold plated emblems, black
bamboo vinyl top and factory wheels and hubcaps wrapped in wide,
whitewall Goodyear tires. The original, Black Bamboo vinyl and
patterned cloth interior is in good condition with some age showing
in the cloth portions of the interior. Kaiser wanted its customers
to enjoy a quiet, luxurious driving experience and they
accomplished this with their highly stylized and well equipped
interior, as well as adding over 200lbs of insulation to the
interior. Powering this great, Kaiser Dragon is its Supersonic 226
cubic inch, L-head, straight 6 cylinder engine backed by its
4-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission. Both the engine and
transmission perform very well with no issue. This Dragon is very
well equipped with factory options including: AM radio with front
and rear speaker, power steering, heater/defrost, front and rear
ashtray, tinted glass, and variable speed wipers. If you are in the
market for a rare, classic car that is turn-key ready for that
relaxing Sunday cruise or drive to your local cruise-in/car show,
then you will want to take a very close look at this awesome and
very original 1953 Kaiser Dragon.
