The car that started it all! We all know about the Ford Model T and how it revolutionized not only the assembly process but also the country itself. It remains one of the best selling cars of all time with more than 15 million produced from 1908-1927. However, 100 years later you sometimes wonder where they all went. Well we can account for one of them, and it is much more than just a historic artifact.
This 1922 Touring Car is a delightful example of a running and driving Model T. The steel body is solid throughout and does not show any signs of trauma or rust. Same with the underside and floors. The black convertible top is in very good condition as well. Note how the left running board is home to a locking storage box, picnic basket, and vintage set of golf clubs! The spoked wheels with sharp 30 x 3-1/2” whitewall tires finish off the look.
The 4-cylinder engine appears original and has an appropriate serial number for August 1922 (6421861). Note this serial number also appears on the title so there should be no problems with registration. This is an important consideration with cars from this era and should not be overlooked. The 6V electric starter turns the engine over easily, though the hand crank is there too if you want to go that route. Again, this Model T is fully operational and will carry you down any country road with ease.
The interior is no-frills Model T with a black padded bench seats and rubber floor mats. The steering column has the usual levers for spark advance and throttle along with a horn button. There is also a manual Klaxon horn at the drivers left elbow. The electric headlights function properly as does the ammeter. The parking brake lever works as it should as do the two forward gears and single reverse gear.
Despite huge production numbers, there are few remaining Model T’s as nice and as functional as this example. When is the last time you saw one of these at a car show much less on the road? Further, there is nothing like driving one of these 100-year-old automobiles. It’s hard to believe it can still motor down the road so effectively while offering so much enjoyment.
