116First popularized in the 1940s, fastback coupes became all the
rage when automobile production resumed after a victorious WWII. As
a sub-series of the Fleetmaster full-size line, the Fleetline
re-debuted in 1946 as both a very sleek two-door fastback Aerosedan
and a four-door sedan Sportmaster. By 1948, the car had undergone
very few changes, most notably a center support pillar in the
grille. The year 1948 proved to be the single highest production
year of Fleetline cars, with some 276,078 produced. The Aerodsedan
was 27% of total Chevrolet production in 1948, a low number. Unique
to the Aerosedan was the optional dealer-installed Country Club
wood trim. Manufactured by Engineered Enterprises of Detroit, this
was a rare option to see out and about on the street. This 1948
Chevrolet Fleetline Country Club Aerosedan Fastback is finished in
its correct factory 'Lake Como Blue Metallic' color on the hood,
fenders, and roof, along with correct ash and mahogany wood panels.
The dealer-installed Country Club wood trim presents
extraordinarily well and offers a striking touch to the streamlined
design. Its roof is lower than other Fleetline models of the day
and comes with a split front windshield and louvered rear window
shade. The body sits on wide whitewall tires that come with
Chevrolet dog dish hubcaps. The cabin features tan cloth upholstery
on the front and rear bench seats with a color-matched headliner,
door and side panel trim. The comfortable cabin comes with multiple
amenities including an analog clock, AM radio, clock, grab handles,
a dome light, and roll-up windows for all occupants. Instruments on
the dash include gas, temperature, battery voltage, oil pressure,
and a 100-mph speedometer. A classy ride thanks to its streamlined
design and dealer-installed Country Club package, this Aerosedan
will easily fit in with any pre- or post-war collection.
