GM felt forced to start their F-body platform when the sales of the
Ford Mustang were surprisingly off the charts. The Pontiac
Firebird, alongside the Chevy Camaro, was born in 1967 and ran to
2002. Pontiac was the "excitement" division for GM and the Trans Am
added even more of such to the Firebird. The Trans Am was a
specialty package for the Firebird typically upgrading handling,
suspension, and horsepower as well as appearance modifications such
as hoods, spoilers, fog lights, and wheels. Trans Am is a trademark
so GM actually paid $5 a car to the SCCA. These muscle cars spanned
generations, but always kept up the thrill of driving. This
consistency led them to be featured in popular culture all over the
place including Smokey and the Bandit, Knight Rider, and more.
