1976 Excalibur SS Series III Phaeton
Excalibur SS Series III Phaeton finished in Ivory White with a Tan leather interior. The car retains its original 7.4-liter V8 engine, the largest offered in the Excalibur, and fully functional side exhaust pipes, original interior, and exterior color. Steering Wheel Manufacture Corporation out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, ordered the car at the Miami Auto Show in October 1975 as order number 76-4. The order specified the Ivory White color, the tan leather interior, the larger 7.4-liter V8 engine, an automatic transmission, a radio, and radial tires. Documents, including the Miami Auto Show order, the original Bill of Sales between SS Automobiles and the first owner, the Manufactures' Statement of Origin, and the manufacturer's Work Order, all signed by the Vice President of SS Automobiles, are all included in the sale.
The car is in good cosmetic and mechanical condition, and a full inspection and service assure the car can be enjoyed as-is for many years to come. The car is coming out of Danish ownership and has Danish papers and registration.
The Excalibur automobile was a car styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK by Brooks Stevens for Studebaker. Stevens subsequently formed a company to manufacture and market the cars, which were standard Studebaker cars with special bodywork. As the Excalibur progressed, it soon developed a clientele list to rival all the luxury car manufacturers, with Hollywood, in particular, taking notice. Stars including Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis, Steve Mcqueen, Dick Van Dyke, Burt Lancaster, Ronald Reagan, Sonny & Cher, Jackie Gleason, Rod Stewart, Jay Leno, and of course Arnold Schwarzenegger.
