For Sale: 1971 Mercury Cougar in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

This is a rare #s matching GT, documented with a Marti Report. Only 787 were built total and this one was narrowed down to 1 of 1 ordered like this! This was a 1 owner in California until 1994. 2nd owner in Arizona until 2006. 3rd owner brought it to Michigan. What is a GT? The package included the color keyed hood scoop and racing mirrors, GT emblems, black instrument panel with a tachometer, competition handling, cooling package and performance axle ratio.

EXTERIOR: The GTs come with the scooped hood and sport mirrors. It has an optional rear spoiler. The body is very dry clean metal. Straight, no damage. Repainted Emerald Green 3 years ago. The paint shows very well but not a $20,000 job. Original chrome and trim shows well. New sequential taillight system. Polished Centerline wheels on Firehawk tires.

INTERIOR: Door panels look new. Upholstery looks very good. Headliner is tight with no holes. It has a factory tachometer and an aftermarket gauge cluster. A retro stereo fits in the factory hole there are kick panel speakers, an amp and cd changer. Upgraded leather grip wheel. Center console is good. Dome light works. Cougar floormats, complete set of original seatbelts.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Very desirable M code 351 Cleveland big block. Vin #s matching, it was rebuilt by the 2nd owner. Upgraded with a Comp cam and lifters, hardened valve seats and ceramic coated headers. In 2022 it was upgraded with a Holley Sniper fuel injection and ignition system. Factory air car. The a/c compressor was just replaced, the air blows cold. It has power steering and brakes. Overall, it looks clean, it is proper and complete. Has both horns, battery is secured, new hood insulation etc.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Complete with jack and spare. Solid metal with a layer of sound deadener and a rubber mat. Under the trunk lid and jamb are painted like the car. Weatherstrip was replaced. A set of shop manuals are included. There's also a cd changer.

UNDERSIDE: No rust, all metal floors, and rails. The GT comes with a competition handling package which includes springs, shocks and swaybar. This has been upgraded with KYB gas shocks. Nicely installed dual exhaust system. Disc brakes in front, drum in back. E-brake assembly is hooked up. New fuel tank. New starter and fuel pump. Heavy Duty C-6 automatic trans with a shift kit. It has original rear end with 3.23 gears.

This is a tough looking muscle car. The body lines are masculine, the stance is proud. $5000 just spent on upgrades and service. Ready to enjoy. Super rare!
