Vehicle Description
1928 Ford Model A Roadster
Henry Ford was always convinced that people should satisfy
themselves with nothing more than a good, simple and economical
car. At the price of great efforts, his inner circle finally
succeed in eroding his stubbornness and, in May 1927, after having
produced more than 15,000,000 Model T's since 1908, Ford closes his
plants for many months in order to retool his assembly lines for
the production of his next legend: the Model A. The latter will
ultimately be produced in 5,000,000 copies between 1928 and 1931.
This new miracle is equally attributable to Henry and his son
Edsel. Henry will dedicate himself to the mechanical aspects and
Edsel will bring a whole new look to the design of the Model A. The
Model T was nicknamed "TIN LIZZIE" the Model A will be known as the
"BABY LINCOLN"
For consignment, a customized, hot rodded 1928 Ford roadster. This
rod utilizes the 1928 tub for the passengers, hasno top, is all
steel, and all sitting on a '32 Ford frame. This frame has been
flawlessly finishedin body matching red, has a black painted open
air 327ci V8 with a 4bbl carb and a TH350 automatic transmission.
This roadster also illustrates the essence of the stripped of many
features of a hot rod, as the less weight one has, the faster you
can go!
Exterior
The original steel tub has been modified and fitted to sit
perfectly atop a '32 Ford frame and looks so good you'd wonder if
it was done from the factory. We are going bare bones here as we
have forgotten the cowled hood, roof, and all fenders and running
boards. Upfront, polished Torque Thrust wheels are wrapped in wide
white wall tires. These flank a clean red radiator corral and
trimming surround. Midway down, just next to the wheels, is a
single headlight on either side and a flying aces decal graces the
front crossmember of the frame. The engine, coming soon to a
description near you, is open air for all to enjoy and the firewall
cowl abuts the passenger tub which has a silver trimmed chopped
windshield and some square steel doors. On the back is a reverse
opening trunk lid that exposes the trunk but could easily be fitted
with a rumble seat if so desired. Also,on back more Torque Thrust
wheels and wide white walls here too. The entire body and exposed
framing has been finished in the deep end of the pool red and
presents with only a few chip offs and inclusions.
Interior
A swing of the doors leads us to view the red tuck and roll panel
bordered above by smooth white vinyl and leads the way as we
slideacross a wide threshold and eventually the inner tub which
continues the red theme over the metal. A red tuck and roll vinyl
bench stretches from door to door and the white theme from the door
panels continues around the sides and graces the top of the upper
seat cushion. Upfront the dash has a central gauge cluster with
vintage looking VDO gauges with a large speedo and a series of 4
gauges all within a faux granite backdrop. The dash top and front
is red and also glossy in its finish and a billet steering wheel is
perched atop the red adjustable column. Clean red carpeting floods
the floors with a long arm shifter growing upward from the center
hump.
Drivetrain
An open air black painted block intake and polished ribbed valve
covering circa 1968 327ci V8 sits behind the radiator. This engine
is equipped with a polished Edelbrock Performer EPS intake manifold
and on top is a Holley 4-barrel carburetor with a ribbed oval
polished air cleaner. Shiny chrome headers snarl as they flow
downward from the engine and bolted to the back, is a TH350 3-speed
automatic which pushes power back to a 3.54 rear axle courtesy of
Jaguar.
Undercarriage
All nicely presenting straight steel with no rust noted on the now
boxed red painted factory Ford frame. Aftermarket tubular
crossmembers have been added for bracing and we see solid wood for
the tub flooring. The front suspension has been fully chromed for
the drop axle and transverse leaf spring. The rear suspension is
all Jaguar with an IRS and quad coilover shocks. Disc brakes are on
all 4 corners and the aforementioned headers rain down to meet up
with dual pipes and glasspack style mufflers.
Drive-Ability
Slipping inside I'm nearly in another world that of competition
born out of the California desert, and the goal to be the fastest.
This car fires right up and runs like a Deere. Easy shifting and
some great noise from those headers and glasspacks. A blast to
drive!
Plenty of wow factor thrown on top if you will, it has the "look".
No fenders and open air engine, along with an all steel open tub
seating and tell the PYT with the hanky to drop it and watch the
tires smoke.
