For Sale: 1965 Superformance Cobra in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

If you're like most gearheads, you know all about the days when Carroll Shelby modified dainty roadsters into monstrous sports cars that made a habit of carving up tracks. That said, as time progresses, technology progresses. And a product that once existed as an innovative hot rod from a legendary racer has now birthed a hyper-competitive, multi-million-dollar replica market. Today, it takes a serious plan and highly skilled craftsmanship to even think about sourcing or restoring a world-class Cobra. And when it comes to world-class, it doesn't get much better than this killer Superformance MKIII. Propelled by 577 cubic inches of professionally assembled Ford stroker, this timeless beast combines storied heritage with killer looks, excellent build quality and unbeatable performance! And what's better: with names like Ford, Tremec, Wilwood and Eibach on its specs sheet, this fully sorted land rocket will outshine, outrun and outlast just about any classic on the road!

SUPER BLUE STREAK

As the only Shelby-licensed replica of the original 1965 Cobra, this roadster's sublime Superformance body utilizes high quality, hand-laminated fiberglass to create a rock-solid drop-top that provides a first-rate driving experience. Naturally, those stiffly reinforced panels feature the smooth surfaces and typically tight gaps we've come to expect from top tier Cobra replicas. And those clean aesthetics stack rich Blue two-stage under traditional racing stripes and a roster of show-stopping details.

At the front of the car, an aggressive yet familiar nose-clip hangs stainless-trimmed headlights over polished Quick Lifts and bullet-style marker lamps. A rivet-lined hood anchors a small scoop in front of locking latches and polished stainless wipers. Behind those blades, chip-free glass tilts clear wind wings and dark-tint visors between a polished roll bar and a polished, bullet-style mirror. At the sides of the car, coated and shielded pipes complement polished air extractors, tasteful fender emblems and a familiar Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car, simple tail lamps join a chrome tag light to illuminate a locking trunk handle and two more polished Quick Lifts.

PRO-BUILT STROKER

Angle the hood and you'll find a seasoned Ford 460 V8 that, in addition to being blasted, fluxed, decked, bored and honed, has been stroked to a massive 577 cubic inches! Professionally built by Performance Engineering of Hamilton, Ohio, that monster mill kicks off with 950cfm of coated Holley 4-barrel, which twists wind and fossils into a lightweight Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake. That intake feeds worked Super Cobra Jet heads, which float a polished breather and "COBRA" branded valve covers over aluminum rockers and a custom-grind cam. A balanced rotating assembly makes excellent use of a SCAT crank, forged H-beam rods and forged JE pistons that are dressed in plasma-moly rings. Big 10.2 to 1 compression gets sparked by a hot MSD distributor, which sequences shock between an MSD Blaster 3 coil and loomed Taylor Spiro Pro plug wires. A trusty Edelbrock water pump fills a hearty aluminum radiator that's seated between Bosch puller fans and a polished expansion tank. A high performance Melling oil pump drains a Canton deep-sump pan. Spent gases are jettisoned through coated headers. Overall, the car's sedate, Satin Black engine compartment is very well done, featuring top notch ancillaries like braided hoses, ARP studs, billet March pulleys and a polished Stellings & Hellings air cleaner. And it all adds up to a whopping 600 dyno-proven horsepower and a massive 687 lb./ft. of track slaying torque!

SUPER PERFORMANCE

Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot powerplant, a proven Tremec 5-speed, tamed by a smooth hydraulic clutch, spins a spry limited-slip differential that's finished with fun, 3.45 gears. That taut drivetrain, supplemented with an explosion proof bellhousing, rides a Superformance heavy wall Jig-welded frame, which is married to a fully independent Superformance suspension. That suspension, laced with Eibach-tinged coil-overs, is led by manual rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by power assisted Wilwood discs that, thanks to this car's featherweight construction, are virtually impervious to fade. And power meets the pavement through attractive Knock-Off Wheels, which twist 255/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

THIS IS THE FUN PART

Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as monochromatic leather and fade-free carpet culminate in a simple yet attractive driving environment. Front and center, deep buckets pin soft pleats between two-point harnesses and flashy Shelby floor mats. Looking forward, a Shelby-signed dash props an appropriate combination of Smiths and Lucas telemetry under a color-keyed top and a polished mirror. An angled shifter joins a polished E-brake between leather door panels, polished door latches and trick Superformance foot pedals. And the driver carves curves through a polished and wood-rimmed steering wheel.

Fully sorted and ready to turn your dreams into reality, this awesome Shelby embodies the unique combination of performance and style every car builder dreams about. From its timeless curves to its rowdy demeanor, there simply aren't many cooler Cobras out there. Looking for a striking show stopper that's an absolute blast to drive? Come claim this impressive Superformance roadster!
