For Sale: 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air in Macedonia, Ohio

Vehicle Description

High quality mild custom. 350/350 combination for reliability, power steering, 4-wheel disc brakes, great stereo, power convertible top, and more. Original black car with a few custom touches. Needs nothing, ready to drive and enjoy! The mark of a great custom build is when the modifications are difficult to detect. 1954 Chevy experts will see a few changes, but nothing that changes the character of the car and you really have to have a stock one next to it to see all the little details. Starting with a rare factory black car certainly helps, and then then started by shaving the emblems off the nose. The headlight buckets were modified with 1955 'visors,' and some of the rocker trim was removed, but there's still no mistaking the classic 1954 shape. It retains the Bel Air trim on the rear fenders, complete with a white insert to match the interior, and it still proudly advertises 'Chevrolet' on the tail. You'll also note smoked taillights, a set of fender skirts for a long, sleek look, and a peep mirror for the driver. Paintwork is excellent, having been refinished a few years ago, and all the chrome was restored so it look crisp. Fit and finish is excellent and the custom work seamlessly blends into the factory sheetmetal, so you know there were pros at work here. This isn't some home-built car. The two-tone black and white vinyl interior looks very much like it would have in 1954, with correct patterns and stitching to re-create the original look. Everything inside is new, from the carpets to the convertible top, and it's worth noting that even the little stuff is right-the dome light, for instance, still works like it should. The big steering wheel provides effortless control, especially now that it's equipped with power steering, and all the factory gauges monitor the upgraded V8 under the hood. The factory shifter also manages a 3-speed automatic instead of the original 2-speed PowerGlide, which is a cool little detail. A newer digital head unit supplies the entertainment, but if you're relying on the radio to keep you occupied, you've bought the wrong car. The big expanse of chrome along the dash is beautifully refinished, the door handles are bright, and almost everything you can touch inside the car was restored. Seat belts were added front and rear for safety and the power convertible top stows under a matching white vinyl boot. The trunk is home to a large subwoofer, as well as a full-sized spare tire, all surrounded by proper cardboard bulkheads and a rubber mat.The modest factory Blue Flame six is gone, replaced by a reliable ZZ3 GM crate motor making roughly twice as much horsepower. There's a 4-barrel carburetor under a vintage-looking air cleaner assembly, a set of finned valve covers that look straight out of the 1950s, and a giant brass radiator up front to keep things nice and cool. Upgrades include power steering, a chrome alternator and 12-volt electrical system, electric wipers, and an electronic ignition system that lights it off fast and easy. In fact, easy is the car's theme-it's easy to drive, easy to maintain, and easy to live with, which was entirely the point. Underneath you'll find a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission feeding a 10-bolt rear end with highway-friendly 3.08 gears inside, making it a comfortable cruiser. The front suspension is a custom crossmember with A-arms and rack-and-pinion steering, so it feels quite modern, and there's a Wilwood disc brake at all four corners. Long-tube headers feed a custom exhaust system that's mellow and unobtrusive, and there are fresh shocks at all four corners. Steel wheels with stock wheelcovers carry recent 215/75/15 wide whitewall radials that really do improve the ride.Extras include an original owner's manual, brochures, parts lists, and spare hubcap. If you've long been wondering how to get an old car that still feels like an old car but has modern capabilities, look no further than this pretty Chevy ragtop. It's been thoughtfully engineered to be hassle-free and thanks to long-term ownership, all the bugs have long since been worked out. It's exactly the car you need when your only goal is to get in, turn the key, and start having fun.
