The Z-car is rocketing up in the classic car ranks, and it's not
hard to see why. It combines vintage good looks with Japanese
sensibility. So a car like this 1978 Datsun 280Z 2+2 is not only
attractive for its affordable price, but also its fuel-injected
motor, five-speed manual transmission, and complete packaging that
reminds us why we love a good Datsun.
Datsun took their time developing this car. They saw all the
elements we love in a sports machine and made it their own. The
long hood, flared fenders, and fastback rear deliver a timeless
appeal. The 2+2 is the more practical version of the 280Z, but they
really knew how to add the extra size within the sleek style. There
have been additions along the way, like a respray to make sure the
paint retains a nice golden glow. But overall, you can't help but
love the true vintage style this one has, right down to the
detailed alloy wheels. And when you see the fit of the body panels,
you're reminded why Japanese build quality and proper care is one
of the most sought-after combos in the new generation of the
classic car world.
Another reason why the first-generation Z cars were so good was
that Datsun understood how to build a sports car around the driver.
You get high-back bucket seats, grippy three-spoke sports steering
wheel, a trio of auxiliary dials right at eye-level, and the speedo
and tach are set into twin round pods. This was the final year for
the first-gen Z-car, and this was also when the style was going
more up-market. You can see that in the interior with premium
classic features like the Clarion AM/FM stereo, electric rear
defogger, and provisions for air conditioning (it will need
servicing to blow cold again.) These 2+2s were a handy addition
where the rear seats could hold others in a pinch, and they were
especially nice to fold down for extra cargo space for long
trips.
Under the hood is the 2.8-liter motor. Datsun/Nissan's stout
reputation and the inherent smoothness of an inline six motor
combine for a great powerplant. And not only does it have factory
fuel injection, but the system was also recently flushed. You have
complete control over this with the recently-serviced five-speed
manual transmission. The fully independent suspension makes sure
this Z-car lives up to its sporty good looks. Add in front disc
brakes, and you have a genuine classic sports car feel that's also
a solid all-around driving classic.
Complete with owner's manual, this is the first-generation Z that
has vintage style, good practicality, and stick-shift appeal. So
you know it's a terrific deal at this price. Call today!!!
