Vehicle Description
Historically, Cobras were built with a singular focus. They were
designed to get around a track as fast as possible without breaking
anything in the process. But, as the Greek philosopher Heraclitus
once said, "Everything changes, and nothing stands still". These
days, Cobras have evolved to not only be great track cars, but also
great investments, storied show cars and exceptionally fun
cruisers. That said, there are still plenty of show worthy classics
that were purpose built to kick asphalt at the track. This fully
sorted Factory Five roadster combines charming aesthetics with 4.6
liters of spirited Mod Motor, a tough Tremec 5-speed and countless
performance upgrades that make the car an excellent track day
weapon. Looking for a top-notch Cobra that's ready to rock and
roll? Look no further than this sinister snake!
ALL BUSINESS
Factory Five Racing has long been applauded for their great
fiberglass work, and this Cobra is no exception. The car's
virtually flawless profile, modeled on two well-known Shelby
classics, is a one-piece, hand-laid Vinylester shell that was
laminated to 3/16ths, CNC trimmed and covered in a .015-inch gel
coat. That gel lays excellent groundwork for deep black two-stage.
And today, this super slick roadster is a head-turning classic
that's ready for the track, the boulevard or the show!
Speaking of sophistication, crude detailing is often the downfall
of an otherwise excellent build. Not so with this MK3, as every
aspect of its design enhances Shelby's innate style and appeal. At
the front of the car, stainless-trimmed headlights join
bullet-style parking lamps to frame Gloss Black Quick Lifts. Behind
those torches, a lightweight hood arcs a small scoop between
polished latches and hydraulic supports. A polished, bullet-style
racing mirror reflects a chrome-trimmed windscreen between tinted
visors, powder-coated roll bars and clear wind wings. Beneath those
wings, coated side-pipes frame monochromatic heat extractors. And
at the back of the car, sinuous quarters hang chrome-trimmed
taillights between a polished, Monza-style fuel filler, polished
deck hardware and two more Gloss Black Quick Lifts.
BLUE OVAL BRAWN
Tilt the bonnet and this Shelby transforms from classic to
state-of-the-art in the blink of an eye. Looking completely natural
between slick Black fenders is a 4.6 liter SOHC V8 that, sourced
directly from a Ford Mustang, makes an easy 300 horsepower! You
see, the key to a great resto-mod is taking the virtues of a
classic factory design and incorporating modern mechanical elements
that are as stylish as they are seamless. And nowhere is that
philosophy more evident than in this Cobra's simplistic engine bay.
A long-time thoroughbred of Ford's performance car stables, this
trusty 'mod motor' utilizes forged pistons, 3-valve heads, high
performance cams and a lightweight aluminum block to create an
unbeatable combination of smooth cruising and spirited performance.
Twist the key and the cylinders rumble to life, singing baritone
notes through long headers. Goose the throttle and a factory-style
intake, positioned behind a beefy aluminum radiator, zings the
engine toward redline. Drop the clutch and the car settles into an
anxious gait, backing killer speed with docile street manners. And
choice detailing includes a billet oil cap, K&N breathers, an
electric puller fan and tasteful Aeromotive fuel rails that are
managed by a quality Holley regulator.
ENJOY EVERY LAP
Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth
the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent
chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot powerplant, a tough Tremec 5-speed
spins 3.55 gears that, thanks to a limited-slip differential,
ensure whiplash-inducing acceleration while still allowing the car
to loaf along at highway speeds. That taut drivetrain pushes a
fully powder-coated chassis that's finished with a fully
independent suspension. Those bones, finished with tubular arms and
Koni coil-over-shocks, turn tight thanks to manual rack-and-pinion
steering. Stops are provided by choice Wilwood calipers, which milk
a Wilwood master cylinder to squeeze 20 pistons around a quartet of
slotted rotors. And power meets the pavement through blue-trimmed
WedsSport wheels, which twist 245/45ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sports in
front of 275/40ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sports.
THE ESSENCE OF DRIVING
Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as durable fabric
and fade-free carpet culminate in a simple yet attractive driving
environment. Front and center, sculpted Sparco EVO buckets pin big
bolsters under four-point Simpson harnesses. Looking forward, a
carbon fiber dash frames crisp AutoMeter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite
telemetry. The driver carves curves through a sporty Sparco
steering wheel and a short, Cobra-branded shifter. And the car's
tidy trunk hides serious Redline Fuel Management above a recessed
battery.
A track ready Cobra that's civil enough to parade down Main Street,
who says you can't have your cake and eat it too? Don't miss your
opportunity to own this spectacular Factory Five roadster!
