Vehicle Description
This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle has its numbers-matching L34 396/402ci
motor upgraded with dual quads and other go-fast goodies to make
for an awesome Super Sport. And with bold paint and a
well-coordinated interior, it's an all-around exceptional hardtop
muscle machine.
Hugger Orange is such an iconic Chevy color that it pretty much can
attract a crowd on its own. Only special cars got this special
order color on the 1970 Chevelle, and this one seems like the right
one to earn that upgrade, too. This later respray continues to have
an impressive gloss and shine. The quality of the finish comes from
a good application, good care, and even being off the road and
stored in a barn for a while. Oh yes, you can almost call the SS a
barn find! Good body lines, nice glass, and bright chrome bumpers
give this a quality feel. And of course, we know you love the look
of a powerful coupe that comes from the cowl hood, SS grille,
blackout rear panel, and the white racing stripes that are painted
on for permanence. Plus, those polished Centerline Outlaw-style
wheels show off a quarter-mile king kind of stance.
The exterior white stripes go particularly nicely with the
parchment white interior. The fundamentals like the door panels,
headliner, and upholstery look quite good. You'll even spot fun
details, like working dome light and insignia trim in the
seatbacks. While this is stylish, the point of a classic Chevelle
is to have a real driver's car. So you have stock pieces like the
front bucket seats, a center console, and a horseshoe shifter. This
is joined by upgrades like the under-dash auxiliary gauges and a
large bow tie tach on the steering column.
Under the hood is a clean presentation that makes it easy to show
off the numbers-matching 396/402 cubic-inch V8 big block. But more
than just history, this motor puts serious power on display. The
long air grabber hides a dual set of Edelbrock four-barrel
carburetors. There's also an Edelbrock intake and long tube headers
feeding a dual exhaust with Flowmasters. You'll also spot good
supporting components like an MSD ignition, an Optima battery, and
an aluminum radiator with electric fans. It all makes for a
strong-running package, and so it's easy to enjoy this Chevelle.
The big block is nicely paired with the stout but smooth TH400
three-speed automatic transmission that feeds into a 12-bolt rear
end. As you look underneath, you'll sport an SS-style rear
suspension with boxed trailing arms and a sway bar. We're even told
the front end was rebuilt with new shocks and new bushing only
about two years ago. The package is topped off with nice driving
features like power steering, power brakes, and front discs.
This is the awesome SS396 that upgraded the style and power for a
true icon of the blacktop. So don't let this hardtop slip away,
