The Charger was introduced in 1966 as a mid-sized luxury sport
model for Dodge in response to the Ford Mustang, AMC Rambler
Marlin, and Plymouth Barracuda. All these cars shared modern
fastback body lines that were quite attractive to buyers. Dodge
decided to revamp the Charger in 1968 with larger, more pronounced
body lines. And for 1969, and Chargers received a grill divider and
longitudinal taillights to replace the 4 round individual lamps,
along with side market lights becoming rectangular as well. These
second-generation versions are generally considered the most
desirable for collectors and continued through to 1970 with subtle
revisions year to year. Today, Chargers continue to get the hearts
racing of all muscle car collectors who find them in restored
condition. This example is no exception!
We are very excited to offer this 1969 Dodge Charger Hardtop R/T
clone finished in beautiful Black Cherry Metallic paint over Black
bucket seat interior. This stellar example was owned for 19 years
by the previous owner and underwent a full rotisserie restoration
completed in 2008 with outstanding results! Fitted with its
original, numbers matching 383ci V8-4bbl engine factory rated at
330 horsepower paired with its original A727 TorqueFlite automatic
transmission, and rear axle ratio of 3.23:1. The option list is
very strong and includes power steering, power disc brakes, factory
air conditioning, windshield washer, remote drivers mirror, Rally
gauges with clock, center console, and solid-state AM radio.
Improvements made during the restoration included a full conversion
of the air conditioning to a modern Classic Auto Air system with
more efficient R134a compressor, in-dash evaporator/blower
assembly, & digital controls; Edelbrock 600cfm carburetion, 4-wheel
disc brake conversion, rear R/T body stripe in white, Flowmaster
dual exhaust, BOSS Motorsports chrome wheels measuring 18x8 in the
front and 18x9.5 in the rear with tires measuring 235/40ZR18 in the
front and 275/35ZR18 at the rear.
This completely numbers matching Charger was built in September
1968 and was cherished by its former owner since 2003. The distinct
shape and body lines of the 1969 Charger are hard to beat, with
sleek lines down the doors creating reversed side scoops, and
concealed forward headlights make for a sinister appearance! The
added R/T stripe across the back and the deep gloss Black Cherry
paint job with the chrome wheels make this Dodge really stand out
among the rest! This example now shows some imperfections from
being enjoyed, but overall remains quite stunning!
Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum purchase in 2022, we have
inspected and performed the following: oil pressure switch was
replaced, along with the temperature sender, blower motor resister,
horn relay, and horn. We installed a fresh air filter, changed the
engine oil and filter, and added the premium Classic AutoAir
Perfect Fit Elite complete air conditioning system, and
professionally detailed to make that unique deep Black Cherry color
shine! You would be hard pressed to find another car with this
combination of originality, desired options and a restoration to
this caliber! Thank you for looking and please call with any
additional questions or to schedule a chance to review in
person.
