1929 Shay Ford Model A Super Deluxe Roadster
VIN: MOM1EX0373
Henry J Shay formed the Shay Motors Corporation with the intent to build replicas of famed Ford Model A. Having secured approval from Ford Motor Company, this might have been the only time a major auto manufacturer participated in the reproduction of a famous car out of its past. Ford waived design patents for its Model A so that the Shay Roadster could be built. Ford supplied the platform, Shay manufactured the cars and Ford, Mercury and Lincoln dealers sold them. It was a great business model, but meeting demand, quality expectations and cash flow proved too difficult and the company ceased operations and liquidated in 1982.
The Model A presented at auction is a wonderful recreation of the highly desired Model A Super Deluxe Roadster. Company records show that only 500 of the Super Deluxe Roadster were expected to be produced which featured twin spare mounts on the drivers side and passenger side fenders.
The Shay Body sits atop the Pinto Frame and running gear including 4 Cylinder Engine and Manual Transmission providing for a more comfortable and reliable driving and riding experience!
