Vehicle Description
This 1981 Dodge Ram D250 Crew Cab is an awesome custom build done
by a professional. It's all about being distinct, premium, and
useful. So it's amazing this fuel-injected V8 pickup is also quite
affordable.
When this truck was first built there was a Hot Rod feature story
that told the tale of an engineer for Volvo's industrial truck that
wanted to build his dream Mopar pickup. This is the result. It took
a lot of work because we rarely see these flat-front D-Series
trucks anymore, and the four-door cabs are rarer to find than some
precious metals. So it's a 1981 Crew Cab and 1993 Club Cab to
create this pickup. Part of the inspiration was to make a classic
Mopar version of the Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson. So the color theme
is similar to H-D but instead utilizes Dodge's High Impact color Go
Mango Orange to go with the black. It has an awesomely mean look
with the blackout front end, shaved door handles, smoothed
tailgate, and lowered stance on polished 20-inch Boss wheels. And
we especially love how the truck bed has room for a graphic
inspired by the Hemi billboard stripe from the muscle car era. This
is an awesome custom package, but it's not likely an award winner
on your first day. After all, that would be a six-figure truck. So
you certainly could invest to get this one back to that level of
prestige and still likely have room for profit. But that's not why
we like it. Instead, this is a solid price and a custom classic
that's also still a real truck. So you can drive it every day and
not worry about water spots or road dust. And the liner paint in
the bed is even quite handy for real truck chores.
The front doors are on poppers, and that reveals quite a spacious
interior. After all, quad cab trucks from this era were mostly for
industrial use. So you had room for workmen and their gear. But
today the full setup is far more luxurious. The seating is borrowed
from a Caravan and was recovered in Katzkin leather. There are
plenty of amenities like dual sunroofs, power front seats, power
windows, cruise control, and provisions for air conditioning (it
could use a recharge to blow cold again.) Your stereo is a fully
upgraded AM/FM/CD/XM unit with a touchscreen interface and
Bluetooth. It's a particularly nice driver with the 1993 truck's
tilt steering column and gauges. Plus, the carbon fiber style on
the dash panel and Hurst pistol grip shifter seems inspired by the
modern Challenger.
A big truck needs big power under the hood, and this one has the
large 360 cubic-inch V8. Since it's a full custom build, the total
mileage is unknown, but this remains a faithful heart thanks to
factory fuel injection. The presentation is clean, honest, and
well-maintained - exactly what you want in a useful classic. The
five-speed manual transmission gives you proper control over this
motor. Plus, it's a true cruiser with power steering, power brakes,
front discs, and modern Cooper tires.
The sale comes complete with the restoration photos book that helps
take you on the journey of creating a unique custom like this.
